They tell me tundras aren't intelligent, laugh at me when I put my nose to the books and begin my learning. I carry my books with me, stacked one on top of the other in a satchel worn old with use. Their whispers and jeers mean nothing to me. I will continue regardless of their comments because words and knowledge are stronger than anything the ignorant can throw at me. And so my early years went, learning as much as my claws could pull towards me while the others mocked my abilities and my breed for the limits they perceived. In very sort time, I would show them. When I think back to those early days, I feel nothing but pride in myself for a job well done. Not only do I have a large collection of tomes, I've written and acquired more lore than any dragon I know of. Even now, as I sit recalling my own achievements, I am happy with myself. To come so far from my roots, to be surrounded by a clan I love and have nearly everything I want? It's amazing. As a bookworm I pride myself on being well versed in many subjects, even if some of them have never been implemented by myself. Teaching others the knowledge I have within me is one of my greatest joys in life, along with mind teasing puzzles and word games. But now, at this moment, there are things to be done that I really must attend to. There are rumors, or what we thought to be just rumors, of hostile forces massing in the east. Our small clan stands no chance against a seasoned fire-tested force. According to sources, the hostile force consists of thirty mirrors roving from lands far from ours. Their leader wears a massive white wolf pelt while his followers all wear various furs and trinkets from the Southern Icefields. Rumor has been the mirror pack intends on wiping out all the clans and life they come across until they leave the southern icefield and move further north, inland to the places where snow doesn't billow and moan all around them. Mathias brings us the news early in the morning and the three of us - Zakaria, Baelfire and I - begin preparations. Though our leader isn't as savvy on these things, I trust in Baelfire to know best. Strategics with the other Tundra has long been a guilty pleasure of mine that very few dragons in the clan are unaware of. When we've gone through the information and there is nothing new to be said, we sit in silence for a moment. "The news Mathias brought us is troubling," Zakaria says, shaking his head and looking to myself and Baelfire. He doesn't want to deal with it, and we both know it. His gentle heart and eagerness to please those around him don't let him confront problems as head-on as he should be. I open my mouth first. "Baelfire and I can take care of it." "If a hostile clan is on the move, I would like our clan to be safe." "My plans will ensure that," I answer, and the confidence in my voice soothes his conscious just that little bit more. Baelfire shifts beneath his wolf pelt, a nod of agreement. "We will inform you of our decision, when we reach it." "How long?" Zakaria asks. "Give us until nightfall." Zakaria pauses, only a moment, then nods and leaves us to our planning. Baelfire and I will plan, and we will be victorious over this threat. There have been many plans before this, and there will be many plans after this between us. His knowledge of battle strategies and my wide knowledge base are no match for those seeking to cause our clan harm.
