Valine

Valine always enjoyed staying at home, snuggling in her mother's wings. When she did wander about, she almost always kept herself in the clan's borders. Most of her time was spent happily helping clan members, or dozing off in warm spots wherever she could find them.

Gathering flowers and bringing them to her father for treats was something done in her free time, and it gave her a basic knowledge of identifying flora and their uses for non-fatal ailments. She enjoyed learning about the herbs, as much as she enjoyed being rewarded with sweets for doing her chores.

Valine was spoiled, due to being part of her parents' first clutch together, and the little problem with her brother. Perses was always wandering off somewhere far out of the clan's borders. It was difficult to keep him around long enough to show him the same warmth. To make matters worse, when he was around Valine would end up snitching maps and travel packs for him to help with his adventures.

She enjoyed the challenge, and the thrill of petty thievery, but she would never want to really steal important things. She only took what wouldn't be missed, and that was at an exceptionally young age. The activities lost their shine and energy quickly, so she dropped it rather quickly.

As an adult, Valine's susceptibility to the Scarred Wasteland's diseases became clearer. She had always thrived just fine as a hatchling, but as she neared adulthood her condition deteriorated quickly...

Things spread and grew across her porcelain body. Little mushrooms popped up. Vines entangled themselves across her feathers. Her wings withered and crippled. The girl, the jewel of her parents, could no longer fly. Taking what she knew of herbalism, she used what she could to take what grew on her and turn them into usable substances. Remedies. Valine could heal minor parasites and it was enough to fend off any further damage done to her. Her wings could never heal properly, but the jewel still spread her knowledge where it would be of some use.
