Akemi was always a little quieter and more contemplative than usual for a spiral. She developed an interest in art early, and she could often be found in random locations, painting what she saw.

One day when she was painting, she came across a Venomblade Assassin who was visiting their clan. The assassin was practicing with her sword, and Akemi found the movements captivating and beautiful, such that she couldn't take her eyes away. Each day after that, Akemi sought out the assassin, watching her, and trying to capture her movements with her paints.

One time while she was watching, the assassin spoke to her, asking if she would care to learn. Akemi accepted the offer, and soon was spending more time with sword practice than she was painting. She is now very skilled, but she prefers the quiet of painting or practice to actual battle.
