Beware. Born and raised in the Shifting Expanse, Bartel was a happy, well-adjusted hatchling. He studied magic, was spoiled by his parents, and planned to study medical alchemy. When he came of age his father left abruptly--some say unwillingly--to serve the Stormcatcher. His heartbroken mother went on a tour of vengeance that used all their resources... including the store set aside to pay for Bartel's schooling. Lost, more than a little bitter, and alone for the first time in his life, the newly-grown Fae made his way to L19 Battle Academy, where lack of funds was no obstacle, though it seemed everything else was. Beware. Small and untrained, Bartel was expected to fail early. To the shock of his peers, if not his professors, he made it through all the grueling training, merciless rivalries, and his own raging homesickness. From his poverty-stricken prospect days to his crowning moment at graduation, he didn't make a single friend--he was using his spare time to study a subject far less benign than medical alchemy. Rumors were rampant about the possible misuse of magic that led to this taciturn graduate's dangerously irradiated claws, but he graduated nonetheless and was immediately recruited into a Wind clan. He is as unclear about his new position as his new clan is about him. |

Considers privately that he does have a friend--the neglected book he discovered in the library that led him to perfect his radioactive magic. Was known at school for three things: being weird about his weird green book, only eating butterflies, and collecting prehnite--though those green stones seemed to disappear as quickly as they came. Reconciled with his mother after she reconciled with life--she is healthy and thriving in the Southern Icefield. The Twisting Crescendo's proximity to the Cloudscrape Crags was Bartel's main reason for choosing Peyelle's clan. Carries a trophy from a veteran kamaitachi with him to use as a backup should his trademark scratch ever fail him. Small and deadly, colorful and reserved, this lonely dragon broke many a heart during his time at the Academy, though he never suspected anyone cared. Part of him, however squashed and radioactive, hopes that his chance employment here means he finally has a new home--and maybe even a family someday. (If not, he still has his book, his butterflies, and his weird green rocks that are probably not supposed to be ingested no matter what magic you're using.) |
