A white mist swirled in the dim light of the candles - their pale smoke lingering, pooling as the air stilled. Darkness hung from above, clinging to the ceiling, seeping into the nooks of the cavern walls.

Two dragons stared at a lustrous pink pearl, transfixed. The imp exhaled softly once more, the white mist staining the air with dew. The chill of the cave would make most dragons pause, but not these two, born of ice, forged in plague.

The blood pearlcatcher stirred, wings fanning out slightly. The movement caught the weak flames. They flickered and bent towards her, anticipation ripe in the air. She breathed out, ice crystals sparkling before her. The imp tipped her head, intrigued. The pearlcatcher gracefully lifted a clawed hand, tension singing through their bones.

Violence as she rent the cloud in two. The harsh down-stroke sent the mist fleeing before her, dissolved into chaos.

"The world shall be split in two," Blooded rasped, "None shall survive. Apocalypse."

"LIAR!" the imp snarled, head snapping up violently. "This I have not foreseen!" Herodias reached behind her, snatching a satchel of scrolls before flinging them at the pearl's feet. "Star charts," the imperial hissed, rage clear in every scale. "Counting the wheels, mapping the gods. I have seen no ends of times. No catastrophe encroaches on the next rotation."

Blooded lifted a scroll from the pouch, the smokey imperial towering over her. The older dragon opened the parchment with care. She eyed the intricate traceries of ink. Blue lined with black lined with red lined with gold. White highlighted the empty spokes, wisteria sang among the stars. She sighed and shook her head slightly. "These are beautiful, but stars do not breach the Tapestry."

Herodias snaked around Blooded, her lithe body dwarfing the smaller dragon. The imperial seized the star map out of the other's claws, her anger eclipsed by the slight worry for the paper as she flattened it delicately against the cavern floor. "There," she insisted, temper reigniting as she stabbed a claw at a cluster of ink dots. They twinkled in the dull orange glow of the candles, winking at the world, promising secrets to the astute few. "Prosperity untold. Boundless joy. LIFE WITHOUT END. How can you speak such wretchedness and fill the deity's cups with the foul ichor of lies?"

The pearlcatcher tipped her head upwards, eyes eternally cloaked. A clawed hand drifted to her crystal ball, her pearled soul. She drew a single digit across its surface and the orb sighed in contentment, Veils breached, Sight bestowed. "No, young one," she murmured. "All is not eternal. You view the Wheel that weaves the Tapestry. You watch the turn of all things."

Herodias sunk her claws deep into rock beneath her, anger burning in her eyes as she stood and stalked the circumference of the lair. "YES," she spat, ice curling around her footsteps. "I watch all, I see ALL. No death comes for us. Why can YOU not speak truths you See for yourself? WHY MUST YOU ALWAYS SPEAK OF ENDS?"

A single hand, raised in acquiesce. "Many watch All. Few watch Nothing. Nothing speaks the Truth of Lies. Death is here. Armageddon. Ragnarok. Call it what you will." She sprawled on the cold floor, languishing before the enraged imperial. "The Tapestry is Law."

Herodias threw her hands up in disgust. She stalked to the door, flinging the hanging cloth to one side. She paused briefly at the entrance, eyes narrowed. "One day I will split the Truth from your muzzle, witch." She turned and left.

Blooded snorted. She always saw the Ends. The Ends were the Beginnings. Her predicted apocalypse had come and gone. She Saw the Death of the Beings Before, their magic rampant and disastrous. And from Death? The Arcanist. The Plaguebringer. The Gladekeeper. Time was fluid. The End would come again and again and again. She foresaw this.

And it was her Truth.
