Biography

The Philosopher

Adriel is the commander-in-chief of the Cumulus Airship, serving alongside Koi (kind of a member of her Cabinet, for lack of better words). To find him, search on the deck of the ship, and he will be there, gazing out over the village below and feeding Zandune topics for thought.

Though he may seem young, Adriel is far from a hatchling, and he was not born on the Ascent, only having flown through the Windswept Plateau in short bursts until recent, when he finally decided to settle down. Before then, Adriel was a vagabond, gliding from region-to-region, helping where help was needed and leaving before he could get too attached. And before he was the good samaritan, Adriel was a humble smith on the Emberglow Hearth. He was fondly regarded among his nest of Coatls for his bright feathers, but not so much as a smith. He lacked the creativity required to be a smith worthy of working under the Flamecaller and thus, he was dropped down to a mere security guard. He spent years training to be a decent fighter but, after completing his training, he soon grew weary of standing at a door for hours on end, and he left.

With only the wings on his back, Adriel flew to every corner of the globe. He met his familiar, an Ensorcelled Volume, early into his journey, in a library on the Mirrorlight Promenade. Together, they flew from town to town, recording the history of landmarks and meeting new dragons at every settlement.

After gathering enough information to last a lifetime, Adriel grew weary and chose to settle in the most peaceful land on the map, the Windswept Plateau. He had flown over it many times before, but struggled to find a place to retire in. He loved the culture of the Cloundsong, but not the busy city life. Adriel actively avoided purchasing a balloon on the Twisting Crescendo, as his wings grew weaker each day, and it would only be a matter of time before he couldn't handle the gusts and his body would be fed to the eye of the storm. While searching through the pages of his volumed friend, he was reminded of an easy-living town at the top of the Reedcliffe Ascent; the Cumulus Airship. He flew up to the town and reconnected with an old friend, the mayor of the humble settlement, Koi. When she heard that her visitor was planning to retire, she welcomed him into the town with open arms.

Instead of having him live on the grass like many of the other settlers, though, she offered him a small cabin on the ship, where he could store artifacts he collected on his travels and have easy access to the beautiful view of the world below. Koi even went so far as to name him as a general of the village (which was more of a status than an actual job, seeing as the Airship very rarely got any hostile visitors). To serve as a badge of his rank, Koi commissioned Adriel a set of armor, made of soft white leather, light wood, and gold-steel alloy inlays; Koi's armor.

Adriel now spends his days standing on the edge of the ship, looking out on the town below. His job is to train young dragons to fight, and he does his job well, but he is careful never to give them too much information in fear of damning them to the life of a security guard that he once had. Most of his students work independently, training on their own and sparring in the camp just outside to the village, but a select few of them will follow him even on his more tired days, listening to him ramble profoundly on life and time.
