Tacitus travels from place to place, hooded and shrouded, peddling their extraordinary healing gifts for food and shelter. A humble dragon with shy mannerisms and low self-esteem, they possess no belongings to speak of and seem grateful for the most basic of kindnesses. They are conscious about their scars, especially their amputated left wing, and refuse to disrobe around other dragons, much less speak of the circumstances that led to their injuries. Though Tacitus gives of themselves without reservation, acquaintances find it impossible to truly get to know them, and rarely ever see them again after they depart at dawn's first light, ideally before anyone else awakens.

Over the years Tacitus's healing magic has been sought by greedy lords and kings hoping to use this remarkable power for their own ends, but the mysterious pearlcatcher always evades their grasp.

Tacitus abhors violence, and is startled by loud noises. They crave companionship but physical contact makes them nervous. Small gestures of compassion touch them greatly.
