History

Cypress and Saru were a pair of well-to-do Imperials that had once dwelled happily in the chasm lair. Having come from an era of Imperial Prestige, the couple was good with money and better with keeping up appearances. They kept their pelts clean and shimmering, both proud and prudish, though they have long since left to serve the Windsinger. YaoZu was a product of the pair's first clutch together, born as green as polished jade stone, and in his younger days, was quite the center of attention.

It did something for his ego, and he grew up to be relatively vain and spoiled, but not without good manners, or a good nature. He was the first born in the lair not to leave, and has never shown any great interest in wanting to either. Growing up sheltered, YaoZu became a great romantic and a dear believer in fairy tales. As a dragonling, he formed a bond with the old Azazel, as the great white dragon had many stories to share.

As he grew older, his parents held YaoZu to certain expectations. He should be with someone with as good a pedigree as he, who could give fine clutches to the lair. Imperials of their ilk could fill the lair's coffers with dowry money, and as the treasurers, it made sense to find a match to suit him.

"It's only business, my love," his mother told him as he fretted on the thought.

This match was Aliquot, and while their bond was short lived, it was fruitful. Two beloved sons, Sasha and Foehn, were born into his care, while his daughter would follow her mother to other realms. Foehn dwelled in the lair for a short time, but adventure would call him away, and all there was left was his dear Sasha.

A loving, if not overbearing father, YaoZu had a tendency to over-coddle Sasha, and many in the lair regard the boy as spoiled rotten and lazy. After finding Otehime in an outcrop of bamboo, she joined their family as his adoptive daughter, and YaoZu doted on her just as much as he did his own son, though often she'd reject the attention, which has left him feeling a little lonely as a parent.

Once his parents moved on from the lair, YaoZu resumed their duties as treasurer. He's notoriously terrible at it, as a dragon hasn't been sold into another lair in due time. As far as finances go, it seems that the Huntsman's Trio keep the lair afloat with their expeditions out of the Plateau.

All the same, YaoZu is known for his theatrical nature, and hosts the annual spring-time Play, which always seems to do great in the box office.
