Biography
Hear No Evil "My mother always said to dream big while you're still young. What do you dream of?"
-Morgan
The oddball of a trio of children from the future. They say that something so horrendous happened to the trio that they were never the same after. Morgan is a dreamer at heart, despite his inner turmoils. Before the incident that rendered him and his siblings traumatized, he would often gaze up at the stars and map out new constellations. He was closer to his mother than his father. Morgan lost his hearing over the years, the damage done to him during the incident taking its toll. Regardless, he's quite the conversationalist and well-versed in mouth reading. His Skydancer abilities aid him in 'hearing' the emotions he cannot physically hear, helping him to distinguish a thinly veiled threat from a compliment. On lonely nights, he can be found star-gazing as he used to, though its former innocent joy has been replaced by a sadder, more somber air. Still, Morgan always aims to make the best of whatever situation he finds himself in, doing all he can to remain the beacon of hope and ray of sunshine his mother once knew him as. Traveling Sornieth in search of the star he saw during the incident, Morgan arrived and settled down with the crew of the Fairfeather. He tries to keep a cheery demeanor to help his new crewmates with their problems, and is slowly regaining his kind and selfless personality. His nature clashes at time with his chosen profession - kind pirates rarely succeed - but his almost infallibly cheery demeanor has startled or won over enough foes that he has single-handedly saved the crew from more injuries than they can count. |
Morgan of the Fairfeather, as he has taken to calling himself, has managed to regain much of his old happy, optimistic outlook. His crewmates affectionately refer to him as their sunshine (as the title of "wind beneath our sails" was quite literally already occupied). Like Wren, he has a strong - if somewhat unconventional - moral compass. Though he seems perfectly fine with the thievery of the pirate lifestyle, he abhors both lying and cheating, and has gradually made the Fairfeather's crew perhaps the most honest pirates to ever sail. His crew have influenced him as well. He has gained their sense of wanderlust and, it seems, a bit of their superstition; he never removes the small blue choker around his neck, which Fairfeather crew wears as protection against stormy seas and misfortune.
If he has any regrets about joining the Fairfeather's crew, it's that he cannot communicate with his siblings as consistently as he'd like to. The crew's movements are restricted by access to water, and their constant travelling means that he often receives letters only weeks after they have arrived.
The recent death of his older brother has left him both saddened and uncharacteristically angry. At himself, his crew, his brother, at the stars the loves so much - it seems as though none but his sister have escaped his ire. His words often carry a degree of open hostility, as they did when Morgan demanded that his captain set a course for the Plaguelands shortly after his brother's funeral. He intends to visit Clan Camelcase, where his sister resides, to ask her about her experimentation with time travel.
This will not be the end of Morgan of Ylisse. Not if he can help it.
Despite the failure of both his and his sister's attempts at bringing back their fallen brother, Morgan has not yet given up on his cause. He has mellowed, certainly - distance and time and the support of his crewmates have done much to take the edge off his initial fury - but the drive to "right" his brother's "wrongful" death still burns bright beneath his smiles.
It has been... What, months? A year? Morgan has not dared contact his sister, not dared visit home. Guilt and grief - for not having been there, for not having more, done better, tried harder - have left him weary. So he lets his sorrows fade away to the sound of his crewmates' laugher and the gentle rock of the sea, and promises himself that someday, someday he will reconnect with his family. Someday soon, but not today. Tomorrow, he tells himself, tomorrow is the day.
Tomorrow never comes.
Slowly, Morgan is learning to live again. The gentle encouragement of his crew, the stories he hears from time to time of his family - they seem to revitalize him, bring the glint and glimmer back into his eyes. He will be better soon, he thinks. With time and caring, he will heal.
