Kestrel Impulsive | Elegant | Cruel Clan Matriarch |
Kestrel's Themesong | Vulcan the Ensorcelled Volume XXMatriarch | Mate: N/A | Apprentice: TBD "Killing people with kindness, her Elegance entices them in Strangling them with silks The blood dries gold on her skin Regaled by how the light does so Even though it's her magic Littered by her evil foe; the one inside her, tragic." - poem credits Fanart: X |
Kestrel
Impulsive|Elegant|Cruel|Temperamental
Kestrel is a well traveled dragon and former songtress. She has settled with age, now focusing her attention on running the clan and finding a mate that can soothe her warrior heart.
Despite her elegance and non-combative tendencies, Kestrel is a skilled hunter and has taken the heads off of many who have tried to curb her wild ambitions or win her heart. She is as cold as she is beautiful and takes much pride in the fact.
Her strange companion named Vulcan is one of the few creatures to avoid her fiery wrath, imparting her with ancient wisdom in exchange for its protection from treasure hunters and novice mages who would dare soil its living pages.
A Symphony of Sorrow
Once a famous songstress, Krestel wasn’t always the fearsome matriarch that strikes fear into the heart of her enemies and allies both.
With a voice as beautiful as she, Kestrel traveled the world with her troupe, stopping fleetingly in each clan along the way to dazzle the locals with their art. She took pride and joy in her singing, and it was said that many a gruff guardian got teary eyed at listening to the flaming beauty.
But years of traveling left her wary, and she longed to settle down and find a mate of her own. During one of their performances, a male caught her eye, and Krestel fell in love at once.
Remember that that was not the fierce dragoness known to strike down those that look cross at her, but a softer reflection of herself. One that took joy in her art and in the world around her.
But her jubilant symphony would soon turn into a requiem as her mate was taken from her. Already pledged to the clan’s seer, he was forbidden to leave, and as Krestel went to confront the clan’s matriarch and plead for her lover’s freedom, the seer herself appeared before all.
The petite fae might have looked frail, but their magic powers are both respected and feared among dragonkind. To have a fae seer brought the clan great prestige, for those were the strongest of their brethren.
Enraged at having her pledged stolen from under her wings, the fae cast a curse at Krestel. Never again would she sing. With a single spell, the fae had taken from her her dreams, and her future.
Rags to Riches
Useless to her troupe, Krestel was left behind, and for the first time since her birth she was alone to fend for herself. Moon after moon she fought her way through the wilderness, and with each blow her rage grew stronger.
Gone was the wide eyed beauty that had enchanted many. Now in her place stood a cold, cruel female with a deep rage and no qualms about unleashing it on the world.
Growing ambitious as she grew strong, the flaming beauty sought a clan of her own. Rumor had spread that the gods were particularly active, and many clans were forming.
The moment couldn’t have been better.
For days she hunted, looking for the perfect clan and the perfect moment of attack. When one newly formed clan accepted her into their midst, she saw her chance. Krestel despised the matriarch for her kindness, seeing it as her biggest weakness.
She took relish into challenging the matriarch for battle. The guardian was big, but her bulk lacked the experience Krestel had fought tooth and claw for.
In no time the battle was finished, and the matriarch’s fallen body lay at her feet.
She had done it. From that point on, no one would ever make her weak again.
She would make sure of it.
Iron Claw
Following the change of power many fled the reign of terror that Krestel brought with her, but as time went by she softened.
Now, her rage has been dulled, and responsibility for her clan is her first and foremost priority. Krestel has aged into a fair leader, although a strict one. Not one to play nice, she doesn’t have many friends, although she enjoys the company of a few clanmates – Dune and Webs.
And try as she might, the matriarch can’t help but soften whenever Xavven comes near.
The knowledgeable librarian reminds her of days long past, and deny it as she might, Krestel yearns to be someone’s flaming beauty once again. Xavven has even gifted her with a magic tome, Vulcan, which is often seen fluttering around as she presides over clan matters.
Sometimes, when she’s all alone, Krestel hums. Just a few bars, a flimsy memory of her past, but it’s a start. Maybe one day she’s bring music back to her clan.
Maybe one day she’ll bring herself back.
