Neve

She had always loved music.

She didn't know when she first felt it- when her mother used to sing to her and her siblings in their eggs, before they had hatched? When she was barely a day old, when her father had taken her to see the clan musicians play for their Queen? When she first picked up the lyre left lying in the store room and plucked at the string, creating the first clear, beautiful note?

She wasn't sure, couldn't be sure, but Neve had always loved music for as long as she could remember. Loved it and longed for it.

The child of the clan's ambassador, she had certain privileges. While the other hatchlings in the clan knew they would be sent to serve the gods, she and her siblings had lived their lives in bliss, following their interests and learning about themselves. She had known she would grow up, would be trained with her siblings to fight, and would go off to find a clan she could serve.

But her main passion was music. And she learned to find it everywhere- in the clink of claws against stone when an attack missed, in the whistling winds that wove through the bamboo or the trees or the falling snow, each area creating a beautiful sound she memorized and tried to recreate, in a dozen things she saw in the world that turned itself into music.

It was beauty among the destruction, and Neve loved it all the more for the music she could create later.
