Ouroboros
자기 꼬리를 입에 문 모습으로 우주를 휘감고 있다는 뱀. 무한을 나타내는 일종의 상징적 존재로 고대 그리스의 지도에는 세계를 둘러싼 대해(大海)에 우로보로스가 그려지기도 했다. 조디악(황도대: 黃道帶)의 12궁도에서도 12궁 주위를 우로보로스가 둘러싸고 있다. 기독교 그노시스 파에서는 세계를 삼켜버리는 존재의 상징으로써 부적 등에 이 모습을 그려넣었고, 헤르메스 철학에서는 이 세상을 구성하는 근원적 물질의 상징으로 우로보로스를 이용했다.






요르문과 우로보로스의 차이
요르문간드는 북유럽 신화에 등장하는 괴물로서,
자신의 꼬리를물고 미드가르드(인간세상)의 바다를 둘러싸고있는 거대한 뱀 이고,

우로보로스는 '꼬리를 삼키는 자'라는 의미의 그리스어에서 따온것에서 알수있듯
그리스신화에 언급되는 괴물이며(신화에 직접 등장하지는 않음)
자기 꼬리를 입에 문 모습으로 우주를 휘감고 있다는 뱀의 모습이다.
