Dear Peony, Cottontail Clan and Allies, it's been a while since we established an alliance. Our time knowing each other has been short, yes. But during this time, I've come to think we have become something else. Something more. I consider you all dear friends, and I'd trust you with my life if needed. Which is why I must burden you now, and ask for a favor. We've found this little youngling near our forest, but we don't know why or how it ended there.

Coral, our Seer, tells us that she sees great deals in the hatchling's future. She also tells us it is plagued with uncertainty and death should the baby stay in the Tangled Woods. We couldn't think of anyone else to raise this egg. Please take care of it as you would care for one of your own.

Actually, I think you and I have personally never met. But I've Seen you, in my dreams. Please, hear my cry. I fear for the life of the young life inside this egg. I can See a great life force. I can also See the Shade trying to erase it from existence. In my dreams, I've Seen many scenarios. Some of peace and happiness, some of anguish and despair, and they're all linked to this egg. Please guard it and love it as one of your own.

Please avoid the strange looking creatures that roam as of late. Some of them may try to befriend you, but others are just mimicking a peaceful behavior and will strike whenever you least expect it. We all know Cottontail has not the best experience with backstabbing, so listen to my warning. Now that you've left the Labyrinth I know I should come visit but...
I don't think I can as of yet. Don't fret, Mother, for I don't blame you. But I just can't look at you without seeing Father. I promise I will avenge him, someday. I will collect the debt that is owed to us and bring justice. Please, Mother, listen to Coral. Protect the egg... as father would have wanted to.

Oh well, who cares? Well not me, that's who! I just wanted to wish you a happy Night of the Nocturne, or as some of the most weird familiars say, "mee-ry kirst-mas". Beastclan traditions are odd. Oh and don't worry about Eggie. Yes, I've nicknamed it Eggie. Dragons around the Tangled Woods tend to be a little over-reactive!

Peony, I can't write much or she'll notice. She's not well, and it's getting worse. I fear the anger and sorrow may be eating her alive. She used to have such nice flowers and now... it's all gone, and there only remain thorns. Her behavior has worsened, and she lashes out at everything. This is purely based on my own opinion but...
Peony, i fear that the threat to this egg is Moss. I've seen the way she looks at it, and it's not a good way. I don't know what we'll do.

Thank you for bringing this strange egg to me, of course I will accept your request.
I agree, there is something odd about it, though I cannot quite tell what. I was sure to incubate it myself, and the hatchling that emerged bears strange markings. Black markings. I feel you may understand my fears. Whether he is an instrument of destruction or salvation, a natural phenomenon or a result of manipulation, I cannot say. Our clan lacks a seer, we would appreciate any assistance Coral could provide.

However, in the days since he has hatched, the child shows no adverse signs. He is a sweet young thing, compassionate and cheerful. As much as the markings worry me, I cannot quite bring myself to believe that he contains a single shred of darkness. I will adopt him as my own son, and raise him as best I can. I must atone for my failings as a parent. I will do better with Sharidhol than I did for her, I must.

Please tell Aiolos privately that I appreciated his message, and know that if the worst should come to pass with Moss... I... I will come myself. You only need call. I will not let the same fate befall your clan as did ours, you are true friends, if not family.

I am glad to hear from you, and I must thank you for your warning. As carer for the hatchlings, I offered to take the egg, but Peony has insisted on adopting him herself. I am concerned for her, seeing her daughter slip so far from her grasp is tearing her apart as much as the loss of Pansy ever did. She is a good mother, and I don't believe she will push her guilt and anguish onto this child, but I will be there to support them both, regardless.
So far the hatchling (Sharidhol, as he is named) has given me no reason to fear, despite his strange beginnings. However, I would like to keep in contact. Your talents may prove invaluable in deciphering this mystery, and judging by the way Peony looks at Sharidhol, her eyes are already clouded by a mothers love.

Please ensure that Moss knows Peony sends her love. She tried to write a reply to her daughter, she really did. I don't think she knows what to say anymore. Her study was full of crumpled letters when I found her, and she'd been crying. I don't think she ever finished one.
But she cares deeply, and it might help Moss to know that. It surely can't hurt.
