She grew up with stories of another world ringing in her ears, a world the Eleven did not preside over, riven by war and under threat of annihilation. Whether the stories were true, or instead a kind of mad game the older dragons played, she could never determine–but she learned the lessons of them well: Affection and gentleness were for the weak. The heroic and the virtuous always fell to the ruthless, and those who cared the least for those they hurt were the most likely to succeed. There was power in hatred, and the powerful survived, thrived, ruled.

But there was power also in family, in brotherhood. Ruthless as she may be, a dragon always kept her oaths, and her parents did not stint to discipline her if they caught her breaking one.

They were not kind, but they taught her to survive in an uncaring world. Taught her rune magic and necromancy, taught her honor and the value of her alliances. Taught her to be prepared for an apocalypse that might never come, to be ever-vigilant for the return of the Shade–or something far worse.

In her way, she loved them fiercely, even as she knew she must leave them before she killed them.

Vicious and proud and spiteful, Bloodboil is a wild queen with a heart of ice. She does not know how to be kind, treating ally and enemy alike with a frigid disdain. What she does know is how to be loyal, to return good for the good that is done her and protect her clan with every ounce of fight in her. She is not a comfortable dragon to have at one's side, but she is an honorable one, forging her considerable hatred into a razor-edged weapon.
