Biography

Persephone's avatar
During the maren raid, the great imperial Peridot died defending her clan. Her body was a heavy reminder of the lives lost, and Shamira and Charin aimed to give her the honorable burial that she deserved for giving her all. Little did they know that a pair of ominous eyes watched from the shadows, the lighless gaze of the lich of a necromancer, Athanasius. He spied the grave and saw opportunity to convince this grieving clan of the raw power of everlasting life. And so, he did. He tried to work the unholy shadow magics mingled with his natural earthen abilities, but the body showed no effect. He needed another way to revive her before decomposition set in and her body was reclaimed by the elements.

To revive her, he took upon the use of nature magics- plants and mushrooms with the ability to simulate her muscles and brain to allow her to come alive again. It proved partially successful, but ultimately not strong enough to effect the massive body of an imperial. Athanasius applied a Skydancer scroll to meld with her remaining magic, and it was successful then. The plants began to grow from her skin magically preserving her body. But when she emerged, she was no longer Peridot. The brash personality she once had was one replaced by a ladylike delicateness and a love of gardening- what Athanasius saw as his perfect mate.

Persephone, as she now called herself, bore no real interest and will reject him at every turn. Over time, she has grown from doe-eyed and naïve to the world she was brought back into and angry at him for bringing her into it. To stay alive, he had to replace all her inner organs with a permanent system of tubes and liquids to feed the plants growing from her. While she has found joy in the beauty of the world, she doesn't want to live in it forever. She believes that even the process of decomposition is beautiful, and to deny her body of that is unnatural and against the order of the world. She has become deeply religious in both the Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper that she hopes someday she may take the pilgrimage to one of their domains when she decides her time has come. Even then, she is unsure if even they can reverse what has been done to her.

Persephone lives a very confused life in her clan. Many of her clanmates are unnerved by her appearance and existence, but know none of it is her fault. She is treated well by most everyone in the clan, but she has little connection with them outside of pity. She may write poetry with others but her relationships are never that deep. She spends much more time avoiding Athanasius than much else, though she has found some companionship in her familiar partner.

Gaia is quite predictably an acolyte of the Gladekeeper. She always seems to keep her cool, no matter what Persephone faces. She is always there to remind her that she accepts her as she is, and that when she chooses to pass naturally, she will be there to help her in whatever means necessary. When Persephone is at peace, the two are often seen tending to plants or enjoying the presence of harmless insects. For this reason, the two currently reside within the Sanctuary of the Shrieking Wilds.
