Biography

so one idea is that Ausket was a hunter and also helped maintain the library in a proper veskorii village, studying what knowledge had been gathered both arcane and mundane much of the time he was there, as is common of veskorii looking to prepare themselves to go out into the world in search of more new things or become a seeker. One day some time after a seeker had returned to the village with a potent magical item, the village was set upon by something. the being (or beings) overwhelmed the village and as a last resort to keep the threat from leaving that village to threaten others, the remaining magic users combined their power and invoked what magical items they could to create a magical blast that would level the village and hopefully anything inside it. a steep price...
as the magic was cast chaos and luck hurled Ausket to the Astral plane as the blast went off (chaos magic surge as he was helping to cast). a few confused moments later he was returned to the smoldering wreckage of his home. he stared out over the ruined trees, the scraps of knowledge and history and all that he had known that hadn't been completely obliterated left to be blown away by wind and time. horrified and devastated he collapsed at the center of the village ruins, and he wept. after hours, he pick himself up weakly and drifted through the skeleton of what used to be the library, his face a mask devoid of emotion as he scoured the lower levels for anything, any scrap of knowledge that had once been kept that he might carry with him. He found naught but ash and embers of lingering magic. returning to the ground floor, he took one last look around before setting himself to one final task be for leaving what was now the grave of his past. Summoning simple tools he carved several wooden slats out of the magic-twisted remains of the library tree. Upon these he carved the names and marks of everyone he could recount, and then bound the slats with cloth from the sleeves of his shirt. This done, he stowed his work in his satchel and wandered out of the village's remains. slowly he trudged toward the shore of the lake of stars. the twilight of the Duskmeadow seemed dimmer now as he made is way through underbrush.

reaching the edge of the lake he set down his satchel and began digging a small hole in the sparkling sand. dusting off his paws, he then reached into his satchel and pulled out the book of names he'd made and read over them once more. He hugged the names to his chest for a moment and, gently, he placed the book into the hole and filled it. Moments passed as he looked out over the star filled water. the depths mirroring the sky above. He supposed that he would like to learn one last thing other than this sadness that drenched his being, and he began swimming to the center of the great lake. There he lay, suspended between the twin heavens that met at the horizon in all directions. drifting there on the water's surface, he wondered aloud, "What would it be like...? to lose oneself so completely... Perhaps I'll find out before I join them."
A whispered response came from the water, "do you really wish to find out?"
he tilted his head to the side to find a creature staring back at him. (a dream eater/memory eater that lives in the lake perhaps) surprise barely registering through the miasma of sorrow that clung to him. "I... really think so, yeah..."
"Then I shall help you. Let everything slip away, to fade into the celestial expanse around us, and be calm," came the reply.
and the creature began to hum a soft, haunting lullaby. Ausket felt his memories fading away as the creature continued its song. Slowly, he drifted to sleep as the memories of all he lost faded from him.
"so... this is... what it's like..." he mumbled softly as consciousness left him.
He awoke on the shore again. a blank slate, with only his satchel and boomerang. He turned and gazed out over the twinkling waters and smiled at this wonderous new sight before him... (who knows how long it's been since that day, but he managed to survive and end up where he is now)
