Biography
Snow
Quiet ~ Anxious ~ Amnesiac
It was snowing especially heavily that morning. Yvy was just about to go to bed after a night starmapping, and Aurora was up very early as is her wont. They were both looking at the falling snow from different parts of the grove when there came an oddly large flake gliding towards them. At least it looked like a snowflake, all white and out of control on the wind, not at all like a dragon in flight. It tumbled to a stop in the snowdrifts west of the grove without making a single sound.
Yvy and Aurora converged on the landing site and dug through the deep snow to find a pearlcatcher, whiter than anyone they had ever seen. In the scant morning light, they thought she was a ghost at first, so pale and silent. She had even dropped her pearl. Yvy found it for her while Aurora ran off to get Ysidor, the nurse. They carried her to shelter, got her warmed up and dry, but the snow had crystallised permanently on her skin. And she still wasn't moving. Ysidor said it sounded like she was in a coma. The whole day went by before the little pearlie awoke, and Ysidor never left her side. At first she didn't speak at all, and she shied away from any dragon with dark or bright colours. As the days went by and she began to recover, she still could give no account of where she came from or how she got here. She didn't even remember her own name, and since everyone had taken to calling her Snow while she was out of it, that name stuck. Snow still can't stand bright colours and prefers the peace and quiet, but Ysidor has become her close companion. She has a very strong presence to the sightless tundra, even though to those who can see she blends in with the snow almost completely. The two of them like to just stroll about in the grove. Having arrived during the Crystalline Gala, she naturally took possession of the eternal snow – it was the most enthusiasm anyone has ever seen from her when she found the piles of it – so at least she'll always have a little piece of her winter left when shortest season of the year is at an end. With the coming of spring, Snow slowly started getting used to other colours than pale pastel, so hopefully the verdure and petals of the orchard won't alarm her. Maybe by someday she'll remember something about her origins, as well, but for now she is just our Snow. |
