Biography

ALBATROSS
the frigid fisherman

Born an enormous, lumbering Guardian, Albatross fought in the Icewarden's ranks in his youth. Ferocious and unyielding in battle, he quickly worked his way up to the rank of general, and already had a battalion of dragons under his command by the time he reached adulthood. But Albatross had just as many allies as he did enemies. His comrades admired his skill in battle, granting him such nicknames as 'The Ice Heart' and 'Great White,' but his rash decisions and harsh punishments convinced many that he was unfit to lead. Not all of the blood on his claws came from his enemies in battle, it seemed. Any new recruit that was full of energy and spitfire was quickly cut down by the general if he deemed them a threat to his power.

It was this ruthlessness that ultimately became Albatross' downfall. Too caught up in his power struggle, the young Guardian suppressed his urge to seek out his Charge. But the underlying powers of Sorneith have a way of bringing two fated beings together, and unknowingly Albatross' battalion attacked a small group of Fire dragon raiders. Caught up in the heat of battle, Albatross managed to ignore the signs that his Charge was nearby - that is, until his jaws closed around the throat of a young Pearlcatcher. The once great general could only stare at the body in horror as the battle ended and his soldiers chased the invaders back to the Ashfall Waste.

Ever since that incident, the Icewarden's legions went on without the powerful Guardian general by their side. He fled across the tundra, over the tiny frozen islets, and settled in a cave on the Arcanist's land, content to waste away at the loss of his only true purpose in life by his own hand. That is, until a patrol from Tycho's Peak found the starving dragon. Half his weight and close to passing on, they brought him back. Rhea, the dark Bogsneak with a darker nature, granted him his salvation: a breed change, to a tiny Fae. Not only did he not have the shame of losing his Charge churning through his thoughts, but the claws and jaws that ended that scout's life were morphed out of existence.

Albatross lives on the edge of the clan territory, alone in a hut carved from ice and Arcane stone. In exchange for being left in his cave in peace, he supplies nearly all of the clan's seafood. Using his Ice magic, honed now in his Fae form and stronger still because of his proximity to the Southern Icefields, he spears fish individually. Or he rounds up entire schools by freezing the water around them and herding them to the shore. He can supply a week's worth of seafood in a day without getting a drop of water on him. Once every few days, Johanna swings by his lair to pick up the bounty. Albatross is grim, and his lair is cold and sparsely decorated save for a few patches of ice and fabric scraps. He spends his time fishing, honing his magic in non-lethal ways, and feeding the flock of Apatite Fishers that surround his home. The only real contact he has with the main lair is Rhea, and he remains grateful to her for freeing him from his burden.
