Biography

Akhaira and Sulamehk

Sulamehk was born near the Wandering Contagion, in a ruthless Serthis tribe. To maintain their strength, seemingly weak eggs were thrown away, and Sulamehk would have suffered that fate had his mother not hidden him. She was only spared from punishment because Sulamehk was born strong and with no abnormalities. However, when of age, Sulamehk failed the test of aptitude that would have meant he was fit to be part of the tribe, and for that the leader declared that his mother and him should be executed. He managed to find a way his mother could safely escape, and he waited for death. The night before the deed, however, a bloodthirsty trio of dragons attacked the entire place. It was by irony of destiny that Sulamehk was the sole survivor - albeit heavily wounded. He tried to heal himself with whatever supplies had remained from the attack, but to no avail: everything was destroyed. The Serthis found he had no choice but to look for his mother; surely she would know how to remedy this. Alas, he succumbed on his way, and as he felt his life slowly fade, another Serthis encountered him. Fortunately for him, the stranger was a healer, and nursed him back to health as they shared their tales. The two of them decided to remain together, and as months went by, they became lovers. They did attempt to find Sulamehk's mother, but they never managed to.

One day, a massive Guardian roamed nearby, prompting the two Serthis to hide. Alas, the dragon's senses must have been quite acute, for he spotted and chased them easily. Attempting to lose the flying beast, Akhaira and Sulamehk rushed towards the depths of the Wandering Contagion, fleeing to the Abiding Boneyard and remaining there until the dragon had gone. However, their plan backfired on them, for they became lost themselves. Days went by as the youths wandered the seemingly unending place, and their food and water grew scarce, and the possibility of being struck by some foul decease grew nearer. On the eleventh day, the starving and weakened Serthis came across an imposing walled clan. Seeing as any attempt to distance themselves further would likely result in a painful death by starvation, the Serthis lovers made one last promise to each other: to die together. As they approached the clan's gates - crafted from bone, some tendons still visible - they held their hands tight, readying themselves for a killing blow. What greeted them, however, was not a dragon's claw, but her voice, gentle and soft as a breeze, inviting them inside. Sure, their Legates sniffed them at every turn, in case they were spies or carried weapons, but they were given food, water, and a place to stay.

They remained there, happily helping the clan's alchemists. One day, a visiting witch offered to give them the ability to turn into dragons themselves, in exchange for a large supply of potions. They considered her offer, and ended up accepting it, working extra hard to fulfill her order. The witch kept her promise, and Akhaira and Sulamehk developed the ability to shift into dragons, whose appearance was relatively close to their Serthis one. Because the transformation process is painful, they avoid shifting a lot, and remain in one form for extended periods of time.
