Iri's father, Crescent, is the king and namesake of the Crescent Kingdom deep within the Fortress of Ends. Though the majority of the Kingdom agrees that he is a wise if distant king, he's quite strict with his children, to the extent that most of them have chosen exaltation rather than stay in the Kingdom. Hallow, Iri's mother, though not royalty by birth, became queen through marriage to Crescent. She is much more accessible than he is, and truly wishes for the well-being of all her people. She is widely loved, but visitors do wonder why she never takes off her hood. Iri had always been a timid child, a daydreaming bookworm routinely scolded by his father for polluting the logistics of running a kingdom with fantasies and idealism. His siblings tended to dominate and ignore him in turns, while voicing their aspirations for everyone else to hear. It was no wonder that Iri was planning something else, hoping to prove himself to his family as a competent heir in his own right. On the day of the blizzard, Ammolite found Iri frozen in the snow and tugged him to the shoreline several hundred miles away, stowing him under a icy cliff to keep him safe while she was out. By the time it was over, it was much too late. He’d lost his way, and never having ventured away from home before there was no way Iri could find his way back alone. Ammolite's contact in Rosary announced that they would gladly take Iri in, and the prince found himself crouched in a hull amongst shipments of coal, belabouring his curious situation to the ship's familiars and the few crew members that woud listen. |
