HE/HIM | LEADER

Pumpkin is currently the leader of the clan, not that he really wants to be though. Hatched from an egg that was given to his first home by a 'deity' who stalked the woods surrounding their home, he was thought to be some sort of demigod or at the very least a seer, possessing some sort of powers outside the norm. But Pumpkin did not share blood with the 'deity' who had recovered his egg, and so Pumpkin was just an ordinary dragon. Not that those who raised him would believe that, though. He was hatched and raised in their isolated, confused way of life, groomed to be their leader when he was of age. They routinely sent him into the woods to converse with the 'deity', who they believed was his father. Pumpkin never met the one in the woods though, and would just return an hour or so later with a story he'd made up while relaxing in the peace and quiet of the forest. This was harmless at first, but as he grew older and the dragons depended on him more, it became stressful.

Eventually their 'deity' stopped making appearances, or leaving gifts for them, and they thought they had somehow angered him and made him abandon them. The community fell into a panic. Most of the dragons there lost their lives in the months of chaos, including the two women who had raised Pumpkin. This sent him into a deep depression that he was still in by the time a group of settlers and explorers came upon their home. They'd heard tales of a group of religious nuts living deep in the Tangled Wood and had set out to find and study them, but when they found the chaotic mess that was left of the community they did their best to help. Most of the survivors wouldn't dare leave the forest, it was all they knew. Pumpkin was one of the few who was willing to leave to receive better help than what could be provided there. They left on a boat, and he was brought to the Sunbeam Ruins.

Under the care of real medical professionals Pumpkin was observed and cared for for several months before they decided to try and introduce him to society. For an unknown amount of years he'd been living deep in the forest, isolated from anything close to a modern civilization. They did their best to ease him into society, but at some point they had to turn him loose and move onto other things. Pumpkin was at a loss. Nothing they'd told him could have prepared him for what it was actually like there. So many dragons. So many sights and sounds and scents and places. It was all too much for him, and he had given up. He's not sure when, or how, but eventually he became a resident of the Glowlight Caverns, located under the Hewn City. Life was more manageable here. It was still hard, but life was improving. He lived a simple life down there for a few years, mostly tending to animals with the priestess Odessa. Even underground he was surrounded by religious nuts. At some point though, their religion also crumbled, and a new leader stepped forward. She brought about a new order, one in which dragons had to train and fight each other for the amusement of the rich. Pumpkin wasn't about to be a part of that, he fled.

After much traveling, and stowing away on a few boats, Pumpkin found himself here, in the Viridian Labyrinth. It felt a bit like his first home, but brighter. It was comforting to him, he could live here. Pumpkin didn't know how to survive on his own, though. He'd always had someone around to take care of him. His mothers, his doctors, the priestess Odessa, even on his journey to the Labyrinth he was given scraps and temporary beds by kind strangers. But here, he had no one. He had to find someone, all he was surviving off of was small bugs and dirty water. He searched for a scent, a sound, any sign that would point him in the direction of dragons, but he found nothing. He was ready to give up once more, and then it happened. He was discovered. At first he thought it was a wolf hunting him down, ready to make him its next meal. As he braced himself for the impact of sharp canine teeth, he was instead met with a question. "Are you alright?" a soft voice asked. Whether it was fear, exhaustion, hunger, or a combination of all three that caused it, Pumpkin fainted there. He caught blurry glimpses and heard muffled voices as he slipped in and out of consciousness. He felt himself moving, but it wasn't by his own doing. Whatever was going to happen to him, Pumpkin accepted it.

When he finally did wake up, it was night. He was in a grass hut, dimly lit by floating orbs of light scattered around the hut, and he observed the same balls of light illuminating the rest of the camp outside. He was alone in this hut, so he got up from the bed of grass and leaves he had been left on and went to the doorway. The camp itself was silent, save for the crickets and other insects singing their songs out in the trees. He was in a clearing, several grass huts of varying sizes lining a path that branched off this way and that, presumably with more huts following it. Encircling the camp was thick forest, trees so tall with canopies so thick that Pumpkin couldn't see the sky, the only light they had was coming from the floating orbs. This place reminded him of home. Soon someone came by carrying a lantern, a patrol Pumpkin assumed. The mirror saw that their guest had awoken, introduced himself as Stormwatcher, and assured him that he was in good hands. Stormwatcher ran off to get someone, and when he returned he was accompanied by the same wolf who he had seen just before collapsing. Only, it wasn't a wolf, it was a fellow Nocturne wearing a pelt. She had the same sweet, soft voice he had heard out in the forest. "I am Pepperedpelt," she said, "who might you be?" Stormwatcher had left them now, and he felt safe with this woman. "My name is Pumpkin. I've traveled very far, for a very long time, and I need a safe place to stay." he told her, and was relieved to see her smile and nod her head to him. "Well, you're lucky we found you then. We are the dragons of the Twinkling Hollow, you are safe here with us."
