Biography

A variation of the ordinary lorem ipsum text has been used in typesetting since the 1960s or earlier, when it was popularized by advertisements for Letraset transfer sheets. It was introduced to the Information Age in the mid-1980s by Aldus Corporation, which employed it in graphics and word-processing templates for its desktop publishing program PageMaker. Any kinds of “lorem-like text” will corrupt the meaningful content into intrusive nonsense, approach with caution.

The one-day journey to the port has stretched into a three… four? -day one. Tracing time is hard under the forever gloomy jungle grounds. At this point I’m not sure if I am still in Shrieking Wilds. The skeletal remains of a Spiral stuck between branches has greeted me for at least twice. Cheeky guy grins at me and refuses to give me a direction, jerk. Yes, I know you’re lonely up there, but I’m not joining you as tree food, thank you very much!

My companion berates me for not shooting down that Zalis which stole my compass when I had the chance. His yammering hardly stops as long as I’m awake. It’s annoying and feckless, but he is just a Guardian who is worried about his charge, me.

“We both know the compass won’t help,” I say to the road ahead. I tried flying over the treetops and using Behemoth as a road sign, yet I still ended up in another dead end that doesn’t exist on my map. This place is sentient, and is preventing me from leaving.

My wobbling legs make me sit under a tree again. The frequency of these breathers is getting worryingly high. I open my mouth to catch some rainwater, while my claws dig through the nearby ground. Despite the freshly decomposed soil, there wasn’t a single redworm to quench my hunger. My companion suggests that I burn down the surrounding woods with my last bit of magic reservoir. Either I get some food out of it, force my way out of this jungle, or at the very least show it to Gladekeeper that I’m not some weakling who will die without a fight.

“Well yeah?! Like how it worked the last time!” I flip a finger at my companion. Out of the three of us, only two made it out of that disastrous attempt at tomb raiding. The other guy left the team right after and I couldn’t blame him for it. Tears in my eyes, I dump the contents of my bag out. Rare seeds and some random trinkets I found in an abandoned botanical garden right before entering this jungle spilled unceremoniously on the ground. There has to be something that’s helpful…!

The ambient Nature magic shifted. A necklace that is just a piece of unpolished jade sucks in the energy with a thirst comparable to my hunger. The light it emits bulks up and gains shape. I shuffle back off for it to land on its four slender legs. A pair of intricate antlers sprout out on a head whose face is covered by a mask with a Nature symbol.

I bow down to what I summoned. Courtesy is the key here. “Ah, Spirit of Nature, can you help this distressed dragon out of this jungle? I am willing to pay with anything I have here.”

The spirit takes a sniff at my offering. For a moment its ears point back and my back stiffens up, but the spirit quickly relaxes and finishes its investigation. It makes some rapid stomps on the rich soil, and all the seeds are safely buried. It then flings my other belongings to me with its antlers, with a snort telling me not to litter. Right after I hastily stuff the mud-covered objects into my bag, the spirit nods at me and jumps down a narrow trail. I have to run on both my wings and legs to follow, but the spirit is kind enough to wait for me.

As though my misadventure these days is a joke, the Tree Warden camping site near the port comes to view within an hour. The spirit dissipates in a poof and returns to the unassuming necklace. A Tree Warden picks it up and asks: “Where did you get one of these? The Emergency Spirit Guides are only stationed in registered Nature organizations.

My companion tells her to mind her own business, and I turn around to shush him down. The Tree Warden tilts her head at the sight of us bickering, and gently wraps a wing over me. “We can ask questions later. You look delirious due to fatigue.” She then glances at the Guardian skull strapped on my wind, “Also, having a decapitated dragon on you is bad for your mental health.”
