"I am like a diamond, every cut and scrape only forms and reveals my brilliance."
Even in the drabness of winter, this Maple bonsai has begun to grow vibrant red buds on its branch tips. Unfortunately, this attracts black butterflies to nibble on the delicate young leaflets!

At the dawn of Xiu's life, she was treated as royalty by all of her peers; a sensation among the haughty male hatchlings that attended her deity studies. In her early teen years she was taught to be a proper young lady by her parents, one of the most important lessons being never laying a finger on any dragon who opposed her, even if it meant being torn to shreds. To drive this thought deep into her brain where she would always remember, they beat her mercilessly until she didn't even raise a claw to defend herself from the cruel torture they subjected the poor young imperial to. She became withdrawn and distant, falling from the high perch she'd been placed upon; like a plaything discarded by it's owner. Scars played across her skin like lattice, and shame dug even deeper wounds mentally. She would peer around every corner with fear glimmering in her large eyes, drawing back when she saw anything move. Eventually she used fine silks to hide her gashes from view; and slowly others began to recognize her as the beautiful, divine being they'd once known. Once she became a young adult with the ability to escape the reaches of her parents, she opened up once more. Smiles etched onto her face, a pleasant gleam shined in her eyes once more. The instinctive fear she was cursed with lingered like a bad dream; occasionally the light in her eyes would be quelled by sudden, intense panic. Her peers would never know why she was so afraid to even wave "Hello" to them, why she would flinch if they raised a claw in her general direction. As a gift, her priestess allowed her to bond with an Agol, thinking it would help her along. She would spend hours staring at the strange creature, having drawn out conversations about the world and all of the beings that inhabited it. Because Agols think backwards, she'd have to spell out the sentence starting with the end. Eventually Xiu learned to decipher it's messages with ease, even speaking backwards so it could understand her! Everything was perfect, like a glass bubble. Until it shattered. The Agol would whisper sweet dreams about destruction and genocide; it would ramble about why Xiu should've killed her parents when she had the chance. She was shaken by it's sudden ominous speech, every word it spoke was laced with poison and corruption. Soon, it began speaking normally, dismissing the outbreak as an "Illness." The Agol began slipping dark thoughts dripping with temptation into their conversations. She became numb to it's mood shifts, ignoring it's corrupted speech. It listened to her, so that was a small price to pay. Soon she entered her adult life. She became more open and it seemed that people treated her like a deity; Females from her clan and others alike would come to her seeking advice and blessings, truly an odd thing. She complied, happily giving them tips and even small gems and silks! Later on in her life she began to consider settling down and choosing a mate to devote herself to. It came as a bit of a shock when she realized that she had never given her heart to any potential mates; something she never even considered doing. Soon her heart began to ache for a young male skydancer that resided in the same cave, almost like destiny was pulling them together. They bumped into each other one day while she was doing a few chores, cleaning her apparel and such. They were both very flustered and nervous, but soon courageous and bold together. It seemed that in Xiu's dreams a faint voice would croon to her; it would hum stories of her suitor, her one true love. Little had she known her newest skydancer friend, November, was listening to the same, faint musings. On a late, cold night in November she could bear the affection no longer, throwing herself into the male's arms and planting a small kiss on his cheek. They gave themselves to each other, becoming one beautiful draconic couple. They draw from their significant other's strength, using the extra energy to pick the other up if they fall. Xiu is very sacred and divine, despite being a mortal. Compassionate and caring, everyone is a friend to this dragon! A pleasant smile always resides on her face, like an expensive doll that was precisely painted. Like a mother, she cares for every living thing, may it be a dragon or an animal; sometimes she's a bit over-protective, and some of the more unruly hatchlings loathe Xiu for it. She's quite a beauty as well, many young males attempt to sneak in longing stares when she turns around; she never seems to notice. Her mate often teases her for the rainbow-colored scales beneath her crystalline, glowing form. Her posture is so perfect, it's almost unsettling. Her back does not slump, her silhouette is always graceful and elegant; truly the envious image of a blossoming young imperial! |
