It is said that Stargazer's parents knew immediately that their son's powers would be great. When he blinked open his Ice eyes and the stars seemed to swirl inside them, as if all of space was contained within his soul, they knew. They were good, strong dragons from a good, strong clan, and they loved their son very much. But others quickly grew envious of him. Friends threatened to become foe.

When he came to them one day as a hatchling and asked who the voices in his dreams were, they grew fretful and worried. Their son claimed to hear the gods as he slept. True or not, lesser dragons could very well try to use such powers for unkind deeds. Their clan leader had already begun to discuss such a possibility.

And so, the moment he gained flight capabilities, they pushed him away. They told him to flee and to never return to the Southern Icefield, and to never settle down with any clan. For many seasons, Stargazer traveled as a nomad, meeting many different dragons and seeing many different things in his young life, but never stopping for long.

Oh, how he longed for a home, though.

When he was a young adult, he met another skydancer by the name of Clouddancer. This other male, though slightly older than him, took an immediate liking to him. It was like a balm of cool water rushing over his shoulders. Never before had he been accepted so quickly by another of his own kind.

Stargazer's psychic abilities were beyond overwhelming to him at times, but he managed them well for the most part. Clouddancer was enthralled, as his own psychic ability was dull at best, far more muted than the average skydancer's. And yet the black and white male never seemed envious.

"Can you teach me?" Clouddancer asked the other dark skydancer one night. "To hear the gods, I mean?"

Stargazer blinked those starry eyes slowly, then shook his head. "Such things cannot be taught," he whispered quietly. "I certainly never learned it. I've just always heard them in my dreams." He paused, then shrugged uncomfortably. "Besides, it's not as wonderful as you might think."

Clouddancer tilted his head in question.

The other male sighed. "Such anger," he murmured. "So much distress." Those pale eyes glanced up at the stars. "I am afraid of the future that will greet us one day, my friend."

Clouddancer inched closer. "You don't have to face it alone, you know," he said after a few moments of silence. "You could join our clan. Thunderclap would be happy to take on another skydancer. Especially one whose powers actually work." Stargazer huffed at him in irritation, but couldn't help but smile.

"Aye, I suppose I could," Stargazer said later, simple as that.

The next day, a resting spot was cleared right beside Clouddancer's, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Due to their skydancer natures and their camaraderie for each other, many assumed them to be brothers. Their similar coloring only fueled such rumors. After a while, Clouddancer and Stargazer stopped correcting those who asked.

Finally, he had a family again.

**********

Eventually, the two skydancers met mates of their own, and were overjoyed when the females hit it off together just as easily as their significant others. The four of them are inseparable now, and are never seen far from each other. They plan to raise their families together as one big group.
