She saw them first-- staid Guardian and Tundra, muscled Imperial and drab slip of of a Nocturne -- clustered together at the edge of the Auction House dais, whispering council about derggeld and lair space. They were laughably inexperienced, made a poor showing of a clan worthy to call home. But once she saw the lithe green drake of her own kind, wrapped in a regal cloak the color of his scales, they all but disappeared. She paid the matriarch and her retinue no mind as she approached him, not offering her name or asking his, and named without preface her clan's price to release her. There was no need to talk up her skills, to flaunt her beauty. She stared this stranger in his magic-bright eyes waited for him to realize her worth.

He looked appraisingly at her face, reached into his purse and handed the coin to her. "Not nearly dear enough," he said in their shared speech from Wastes they'd never seen, "and gladly paid." Her heart skipped as their claws clacked together, and when she returned to her old lairmates, she passed the derggeld over without a word. They marveled that though she was leaving the Lightweaver's domain, most likely to never return, she had never looked so radiant.

This new family of hers was odd, for certain: small, studious, oblivious to most common cares of provisions, nesting, growth. They spoke strange tongues and called her a long string of sounds that hardly seemed a name at all. But in Keler's mouth -- her mate's mouth -- it was a sibilant caress that called up images of the dawn.

The Matriarch at her tablets, her mate amongst their brood, Keler often gone with the other gladiators to fight monsters, Goizargi found herself alone in this odd land, poking around the near-empty lair and doing her utmost to make it more comfortable. At night, curled against her love's cool scales, she fretted to him: she couldn't care for everyone, couldn't make their clan strong and safe for their future progeny by only her own power. He kissed her fringe, laughing and yawning, and told her "You came to me because you knew we needed you; I trust you to know what else is necessary."

The next morning, as a tangerine sun broke over the Spire, she returned to where her new life started: the sunbaked pits of the Auction House. She studied the lines of those on offer, asking them the questions no one thought to pose her, looking for those who would complete the family she'd created. Because her lover was part right; Goizargi knew exactly how to make the Euskara tribe thrive, but it was not a matter of what at all, but who.
