Shade Runewriter didn't always want to become a leader. But for the sake of her clan during a crisis, she knew she needed to step up.

Born into Clan Arrow, her mother passed at birth. She was named Shade, a dark name, to symbolise the death of her beloved mother. Her father, overwhelmed with his grief, plummeted into an abyss depression during the first few years of young Shade's life, and ultimately ended his life when Shade was three years old. She was passed around through different dragons within the clan to take care of her, but she was lacking the parental love that every dragonet needed.

She grew up to be a unremorseful and cold dragon. She didn't have any long lasting friends as she wasn't pleasant to be around. She couldn't read emotion and empathise like other dragons can. She tried at first, but eventually given up when everyone around her stopped caring about her. But one day, the clan was overrun by raiders, who pillaged and took away everything in the clan grounds, leaving nearly half the clan dead, and warning the ones alive that if they do not provide them with more gold within the next week, they will come and completely wipe out the clan.

And seeing the sadness of the clan, the dragons who mourned the loss of their loved ones, Shade could finally understand the emotions that her clanmates were feeling. Being the only one alive without having lost a loved one during the raid, she realised that the clan needed to be saved. Somehow, the love for her clan still lingered in her heart. She decided that finally, she would do something and get back at these raiders.

Overcoming her anxiety, she called the dragons together, and explained that they must defend themselves and their remaining love ones, and hold on to whatever pride they had in their clan. She tells them that she understands, that all her loved ones are gone as well. But in the end, it is important that you must pull through and know that death is inevitable. Currently, the dragons alive must be able to defend themselves and the clan grounds.

And with much preparation, Shade managed to lead her clan to victory, and defeated the raiders once and for all. With the previous clan leader being assassinated during the raid, the dragons in the clan unanimously voted for Shade to take the leadership position, because of how well she lead the dragons to defend themselves. Shade has found a purpose, and now the love that all the dragons of the clan gives her fuels her on.
