“I am sorry ma’am, but I only bring you truths!”

A Fae shot forth from the cavern opening, darting into the main lair centre and landing on an imbedded perch to turn about-face. The large head of a female Ridgeback emerged from the same path moments after, her antlered crown nearly scraping the lower ceiling.

The room struggled to permit her size, leaving her to stop mid passage through the entrance by the time she came face to face with the Fae again. Frustration coloured her features even if an air of professionalism kept it under check.

“And I told you that we sent all that had been ordered! It is no error on our end, I oversaw organisation of the shipment myself. The request was fulfilled.”

A Pearlcatcher tried squeezing passed the Ridgeback then, even sucking in his belly when his momentum came to a stop. She lifted her foot and he popped through with a sudden lurch.

The dragon dusted himself off with a brush of his tail and readjusted the pearl sling across his front.

“Uhm, about that, Tewaki, ma’am.”

He faltered when the Ridgeback spun on her neck and stared down her spectacles, then hastily shifted his sling aside to procure some papers from his bag.

“The order we received-” he cleared his throat nervously- “Against Heider clan’s records– what they claim to have requested anyway– I checked them against our own, and- well, they do not match.”

Her teeth flashed beneath curled lips. “How do they not match?”

“Well, the shipment was filled and completed to what we received as their request, yes. But it is missing components listed on the Heider’s copy altogether. We missed them only because they were not there.”

Tewaki rounded on the awaiting Fae then. Her tone dropped low in warning.

“Attempting fraud? Claiming our error to seek compensation?”

“We do no such thing!” the tiny Fae squeaked at once, his frills flaring in offence.

Karma cleared his throat again. “It was written by the same hand, the time stamp is untampered, and missing items are spread throughout the list. The likelihood of it being changed afterwards is not in such favour.”

“But that does not prove they had not written it anew and discarded the old!”

“N-no, it does not, but if they have not done so then this supports an error. Miscommunication has happened somewhere – I don’t know if it began here or home.”
