Esmyth
Prisoner, revolutionary
Once-king of the Charged Depths, now criminal and awaiting a trial for war crimes. "We are the sum of all we have done, added to the sum of all that has been done to us." Esmyth had been born in one lightning clan, and raised in another under the same deity. It was in his second clan that he sewed seeds of discord through the clan, and plotted his rise to power in the shadows. He rose in a bloody coup d'état, seizing the clan once ruled by Althra and claimed it as his own. He had instigated a move to the Sea of a Thousand currents, and tried to urge the conflicted clan ever deeper into the Tidelord's domain. It was in doing this that he splintered the clan in two parts; the Thunderborn, a group of dragons who clung to the old ways of the clan, and his own; the Clan of the Charged Depths. His own clan would become a clan of ruthless mercenaries, training dragons to fight either for their Tidelord, or a wealthy clan in need of such warriors. Esmyth was and always had been extremely devout, everything he did was in the name of a deity he dreamt of nearly every night. He believed the Tidelord had cured an illness of his youth, and had chosen him to fight in the name of the Tidelord. As a dragon, Esmyth was manipulative, selfish, and ambitious. He saw this not a as a personal flaw, but as an unfortunate character feature that would bring him to where he needed to be to achieve the greatness he knew he was destined for. As a leader, he was cold and cruel; cunning and distrustful. He was hardly known for his mercy, and was paranoid of others trying to take him from his pillar. Perhaps it was his just paranoia that allowed him to rule as long as he did, as he only fell from rule after the Plague swept through his sea. He had agreed to ally with the splinter group of familiar dragons, and fought tooth and claw during the battle. He nearly fell to the plague, and was forced to retreat to the Temple of the Lambent Loom, a clan who had graciously accepted refugees from the war. Once the battle had ended, he was escorted to the old tunnels he'd claimed as the Charged Depths, and made prisoner. Currently he awaits trial for war crimes, and crimes against all dragonkind. |
