Biography

The air festered like a boil in the heat; boiling the savage defendants in their own armor, and it reeked of fresh blood sickly sweet. Already a feast for flies. Still, as Bluemoon tottered and clawed herself up from the ground, their feet squelched in the drenched mud of the battleground. To their left there was a soft cry; they turned, and blinked their well-like eyes without comprehension as the great and kind broodmother went with the other defenders to her 'last rest'. As she slumped to the ground, her hard crest dug deeply into the dirt. Like a tree's roots grabbing desperately to the ground against the storm, only to topple still under its unending force.

There was a feral scream from the great and kind broodmother's mate, but his anger was far too late. His love was already far from the battlefield, and the bodies of her work all laid tiny and almost unreal with her on the thirsty field.

The feral scream grew in desperation as the dragon descended on their World Destroyer, the one who takes a dragon's soul away.... but there was nothing for them to take from the triumphant Destroyer, and with the choke of their last breath they joined their mate on their grave.

Empty of rage, but overflowing with sorrow, Bluemoon rose to the air. She was the last Defender, and if this was her clan's end, then it was her's too.

Her wings brought her into the air, and with a screech of pain and grief she threw herself at the crashing waves of pointless greed and hunger for power.

This was her end...

She caught one in her mouth, and before she had spit the empty shell to the ground she was on to the next.

Still, this was her end...

Bluemoon rose with last of her will, and as she shrieked her defiance she was blinded with the sun's fire through her chest. The ground rose to meet her with a dissonance of sickly cracks and the grating of armor against itself. With a pained gasp, and then a slow sigh Bluemoon gently closed her eyes. She would see her clan again, soon...

...

Bluemoon felt the sun's fire burn out of her chest, and then the bliss of quiet, but as she raised her eyes to greet her clan once again her vision was overcome with tears. The bodies of her clan all laid around her, bloodied and empty. Their armor and jewels were stolen in an act of desecration. And below her weightless form was her own body, empty of her soul. The arrow was still in her breast.

Bluemoon screeched in anguish. She was not allowed with her clan in their 'last rest'. She had failed them, her clan; she wasn't worthy...

Abruptly, a small squeak rose from the nesting grounds, and as Bluemoon's curiosity drew her to the sound a hatchling struggled greatly to their feet, their leg twisted and odd as they cried for their clan.

Bluemoon moved to comfort them instantly, and froze as her touch made the hatchling freeze and then tremble. Pulling away, she curled around the hatchling. Trying to provide any comfort she could to the distressed youngling. The desperate wailing continued, long after the sky fell dark. Bluemoon laid helplessly by their side, helpless to defend the clan's last hatchling.

Suddenly, the crying transformed into an eager cry and the hatchling tumbled weakly to their feet. Bluemoon turned her head to where the hatchling gaze wavered unfailingly.

Over the crest of a hill a dragon emerged, bearing a glowing blue light that illuminated their concerned face. An armada of dragons appeared over the hill alongside them, all whispering and casting devastated eyes over what could be seen of the massacre. The dragon with the light cried out, and tumbled down the hill clumsily, clearly having noticed the sobbing hatchling.

Bluemoon rose angrily to her feet. She has to do some- she froze, a howl dying in her throat as the dragon descended on the hatchling and gently wrapped them in their wings. With worried eyes, Bluemoon watched as the lame hatchling was brought before the group dragons to a great twittering and worried welcomings.

Bluemoon expression slowly relaxed, until it was replaced with a regretful happiness. The hatchling was surrounded on all sides, already swarmed with a new, protective clan. A family to take care of them, and to call their own.

With a happy, farewell twitter, Bluemoon faded; With absolute contentment she slowly opened her eyes once more, and joined her family in their last rest.
