Tacet
"It is silent"

It was a biting cold day when Overture found Tacet. Sharp winds were whipping up from the southern icefield, flurries of snow beginning to creep up into the vibrant pink of the starfall isles. He swooped low to hunt satin mice as they frantically searched for any last shreds of food to hoard for the oncoming cold snap, looking to pad his own larder.

As he reached the treeline of the Starwood Strand, blast after blast of arcane energy caught his attention. He flew close, prepared to intervene if some native Fae was being harassed by a straying crab or hippogriff. It was a surprise to find only a tiny hatchling, desperately shooting bolts of magic in every direction as a centaur dodged back and forth, trying to come close enough to spear the little one. With a dangerous hiss, Overture dove in and swiped across the centaur's flank, raking it and sending it fleeing deeper into the woods with a cry.

He tried to approach the little hatchling, but it reeled back when it heard his footfalls and released a blast of magic his way. At first, Overture cast about for a family, mimicking a Fae distress call and signal. It soon became clear that the tiny creature was orphaned.

It took an hour of soothing crooning and careful approach to get close enough to the exhausted hatchling to see the little creature properly past the harsh glow of magic. It was then that it became clear why the little thing had either been orphaned or become lost, for it was blind, white eyes open wide in fear. The eyes were so perfectly white that it could have been confused for a child of ice, if not for the definitely arcane magic it had been spitting and the vibrant, throbbing markings that seemed etched onto the tiny creature's body.

Once he got the tiny fae to be calm, he tucked the exhausted thing into his pack and flew it back to his lair where he bundled it up in a nest of furs.

Over the next few weeks, Overture gathered that the little fae was not only blind, but mute. He named the little one Tacet, for his unending silence, and began to gently teach the little fae how to fly and navigate the lair, and to control his magic. As the wild arcane energy contained in the tiny creature was brought under control the markings on the fae's body dulled, though they never completely faded away.
