B I O G R A P H Y

Main Theme: Greatful Dead – Looks Like Rain

______ Although Ilmarinen originated from the Windswept plateu, his elemental affinity is now to the Water Flight. Before, he had been a highly valued mage, who used his wind affinity to fly fast enough to check prices throughout the region. His marketing skills were highly prized by his previous clan, as that knowledge allowed them to control the market and trading in the area. Eventually, he wanted to expand his reach and trading expertise into farther reaching fields. Unfortunately, he started with the Starfall Isles. Eager to begin trading, he began preliminary parleys with several clans, aiming for long term trade agreements. He obtained several quickly. Almost unnaturally so. Soon he discovered the area he was traveling in was contaminated with Arcane magic- but by then it was too late. No wonder the other clans had been desperate for trade, all other traders were dead from infection by the twisted magic.

______ Only days after discovering the Arcane magic that infested the area, Ilmarinen was struck down by fever and chills as his body rebelled against his magic. The twisted nature of his environment was turning what had always been his, into something completely alien. For several days he sheltered in the Starwood Strad completely helpless. It was only chance that allowed Clan Aphelion to find him. Lucent was quick to try and help his worsening condition, but he was too far gone is mutation to retain his elemental allegiance. Eventually, horribly ashamed of his change and unwilling to return to his pervious clan he joined the clan of wanderers that had found him.

______ Now he resides over the clans finances, using his previous knowledge as an expert trader and mage to oversee the money that the clan spends. He still longs to return to his old clan, but remains separate. Perhaps it is out of a sense of shame at not completing his goal and joining a new clan, perhaps it is out of a desire to cut all of his old ties, perhaps he simply doesn’t want to return. Some days, even Ilmarinen doesn’t know. For now, he is relatively happy with the clan and maintains close friendships with Lucent, Lambent, and Monsoon.

He actually completed the contracts he initially formed for his old clan before he was infected
He loves sour foods but hates to try new types
He still has a network of trade contacts throughout Sornieth
Because he can no longer use wind magic to fly as fast, he can no longer establish an overwhelming trade empire based on regional prices
He is not very ambitious, most of the trade expansion he did with his old clan was on behest of their leaders
He teaches mages in the clan about wind magic and tries not to be envious of their abilities
He has an undeserved, but undoubtedly there grudge against Arcane, and its dragons though he tries not to show it
He can’t sleep without flying around the current camp for a little bit to calm down and destress from the day
He loves jazz and classical music, especially Wind’s traditional songs
If his old clan is brought up in unfamiliar company he can get pretty violent and snappy about it
He tries to remain calm in most situations, but he actually can’t stand half the dragons he works with
He’s very arrogant about the power he wields through trade
He doesn’t like small animals, but has a soft spot for young dragons
He is willing to fight other dragons over free trade policies and gives regular lectures about managing money
He hates seeing people swindled of their money, unless they should know better, but often doesn’t step in when it happens
He thinks the lesson of being ripped off is worth it in terms of cash if the dragon in question learns from it
He is reluctantly taking lessons from Inna about water magic, but he hates it
He tries very hard to not hate water magic, because it’s so close to hating himself and what he’s become but it’s not easy
The rune of wind magic still remains because he is a master at the art, only his newfound magical biology prevents him from doing so
On his bad days, traitor is all that he can name himself
