Biography

B A T M A N
Icebreaker and Watcher

Half the lair enjoys his singing, the other half don't. His songs change by his mood. Batman is generally social and speaks to everyone. He has no difficulties reading a hatchling's mind. When everyone is out hunting, gathering or training he sits guard atop an old pole near the lair's entrance.

A Foreign Crown

As he flew from his home for the first time, he decided to take a detour before visiting his father's new home in Plague. His detour turned out to become a world tour. Having so small wings the tour turned out to take months longer than planned.

The first domain he visited was the Starfall Isles, his mother's land. He admired the pink rocks that sparkled during the day, and the Starwood Strand's infinite wonders during the night. The flowers glowed in thousands of hues, and the air felt hot and salty. He watched faeries dance in the morning dew, treading softly to the tune of a morning bird's song.

There he discovered that the world was so much more, and that he knew so little about anything. Numbers, calculations and money would never compare to the wonders of nature, and he knew he would change flight. To where he never found out before he met Miiv.

He had wandered trough the whole of Dragonhome with a group of snappers. As they could not fly, he wouldn't either. His tour had become a long line of life lessons. Impatience made you miss the small wonders, like a silly joke or a sunbathing skink. He found that snappers has an excellent sense of humor if you have the patience to listen.

In the Viridian Labyrinth he learned to climb trees. The thick undergrowth would not always let you have enough room to fly, and never a long enough clear path to run yourself into the air either. Luckily, small wings were an advantage here. They enabled him some extra balance when he started learning how to climb, and let him soften his falls. Here ha also saw wonders; birds that looked like flowers, and insects that scattered sunlight into rainbows. There were so much life.

(picture of colourful bugs)

He passed a smaller body of water and ended up in the Tangled Wood. It's lack of sunlight terrified him at first. He though no life could be in there. Once again he was reminded of his ignorance. Once his eyes adjusted to the light, he started seeing the critters that tried to hide when he neared. He recognized some variants of the species he had seen elsewhere. They had adapted in colouration and abilities. Their hearing and night vision seemed to be enchanted, but their light-reflecting eyes gave them away once he knew what to look for.

He knew the locals had been watching him for at least a full day before he demanded they show themselves. When they did he was seemingly surrounded, but he had expected that. He had not sensed all of them, but he knew they had to be even better adapted to the woods than the food they hunted. "I am no intruder, and no treat. What do you need me for?" It was a shot in the dark, but a well reasoned claim. They had watched him, but not interfered. He was walking towards something they needed him close to. Shadow dragons were rumored to be clever and he did not doubt that. They already knew a lot more about him than he did of them. But he knew they would not attack, or they would have done so hours ago.

The biggest mirror walked closer. "We need your strength, so come with us." "I will come if I wish" he said. When the mirror brisked his wings he calmly continued in the analytic tone he was used to hearing in his homeland. "I don't need to follow you as I'm already walking the right way. When we arrive I will decide to help or not." He would not be bullied. He was an imperial and at least twice the mirror's size. He would choose his own destiny. The mirror looked at him slyly, but said no more. The pack merged once again with the forest.

(picture of the ruined entrance)

He continued to what he concluded was the entrance of the ruins of the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. There was a series of huge stone slabs in a heap in front of what appeared to be one of the entrances. It must have collapsed. The forest had thinned and the pack was visible behind the trees. "Come on out. Is someone buried under these?" The leader joined him. "Yes, my sister is." He seemed to want to bite his tongue. "Please help us." He looked at the ruins, then at the pack behind the trees and back at the ruins. "You take 3 dragons over there, 2 there and the last 3 there." He commanded. "Any healers?" "Yes, one." "Then the healer will stand by." The mirror signaled to the pack and they joined him. Once in formation they got to work. He lifted and commanded which dragons would lift what when. They would not have succeeded without a tactic. The slabs and brambles was a total mess. The Brambles had been used to hold the slabs together, but when the construction fell they made the ruins a puzzle. The pieces had to be removed in the right order and the brambles cut and held tight so the remaining slabs would not crush the dragon underneath. The rescued dragon was luckily a guardian, but she was still exhausted and badly bruised. A fae would have been instantly killed.

The following night was a feast. It was held in the Wispwillow grove. When they neared, a Wispwillow guide emerged. "This is a guest of honor, please show him to the guest quarters." The wispwillow guide seemed to straighten up and get serious. It turned it's glowing butt on and started trailing back to where it had come from. He followed it for about half an hour, and ended up in an old building with lots of huge rooms. One contained only an old, wooden wardrobe. Another contained a kitchen that was in full use. The chiefs made all sorts of things, from roasted mushrooms to chocolate tarts. He walked by until he found an unoccupied room and got some rest.

"Excuse me." He opened one eye, not sure if he had been sleeping or not. It was a pretty female skydancer. "The feast is about to start. Would you please follow us?" He noticed the Wispwillow guide, and could have sworn it was the same he had been following earlier. "Hi buddy" he said. It smiled back and flew closer. The skydancer followed. "They told me to get you dressed. You are, after all, a guest of honor tonight." She stared at him. He guessed it must bee his size, as he was about 6 times her size. He didn't know she had been staring at him for hours, measuring out silks and other textures for garments, taking measure by the eye. She held out her products. "Here, try these on. They should fit and make you feel more comfortable at the party." He looked at the huge bundle that had laid on the floor beside her until then and rose. She was so small! And elegant, like those tiny glass figures that the fire glass smiths make. Slender, detailed, catching the remainder of the light. He pulled his gaze back to the garments, and laid them out on the bedding. They were all in different shades of blue, black and purple, except for some pieces of silver drapery. He guessed it would be put on last, else it would be invisible. It turned out to be some sort of leg decoration used at festivals and celebrations.

They were said to take you closer to the moon and your elemental magic, as happened in a tale that was told during that night. The moon got curious of dragonkind, and toutched by their elemental connection. She descended as a dragon named Selene, and was more beautiful than anydragon could imagine. She was simple and elegant, shimmering in tones of the night and the light she reflected. The story ends with Selene returning to the sky, where her sister Helios, the sun, had been alone the whole time.

At the party, Batman ate far too much. The people were nice, however many times they tried tricking him into playing weird-ruled games. He would not walk a whole day on his front paws if he lost a silly game. Somehow he always found Miiv, the seamstress, by his side whenever he needed to ask for something. Her wispwillow guide jumped on every opportunity to help as well. They seemed to be working great together, and seemed to know what the other was thinking. When the evening grew too late, and everyone had fallen asleep on top of each other, he fell asleep with one wing covering her, shielding her from the creeping cold that would come with the morning dew.

The next day, when he was about to continue his journey, she followed him to the border. She was carrying a lot more items than she needed for following him to the border. As they neared she finally spoke up. "I've been thinking of traveling. Explore, learn new techniques and styles and finally settle down and make my garments world famous. I want to be able to do something myself, not just dress up one single clan over and over again. I love them, and will miss them, but I need to be who I want to be, and that includes travelling. May I please travel with you?" Her expression was serious, but her eyes knew he would accept. He smiled. "You can travel with me for as long as you want. I'm going to visit my father in the Scarred Wasteland, but am taking a tour of the world in the same leap. As I have told you I have been to the most Southern, Eastern and Northern parts of the world, so now I... We, are heading West and back East. I'm looking forward to having a companion." His attention shifted once again to the amazing sights he had seen. "Someone to share the wonders with. " His voice trailed off. Sunlight burst trough the leaves, bathing him for the first time in what felt like ages. It burned in the eyes, but a soft wind stroked his scales and reminded him of so much he had missed. He stretched his wings and tried a leap. His flight was clumsy and he was still too full. Miiv closed her eyes and followed, using her senses over her eyes in the bright light. He wondered at how she did it. Another wonder. This time a dragon wonder. Her body drew the light in, while her wings reflected and her belly scattered it. She looked like the mushrooms of her homeland, just 1000 times more stunning.

As his eyes adjusted he saw more colours. Mostly shades of yellow, brown and white, but also vibrant flowers of different shapes. Somehow they all reminded him of different things he could not remember. His companion seemed to have the same problem. After several days her familiar finally dared come out of her satchel. It kept close to his dragons, but seemed as stunned as when he had seen the Starwood Strand. Their travel trough the Sunbeam Ruins went in peace. The dragons got to know each other better, and became close.

(picture of flowers in the sun, and the wispwillow guide meeting other insects)

They stood at the border between the Sunbeam Ruins, Shifting Expanse and the Sea of a Thousand Currents. The contrast was unbelievable. They saw thunderstorms. And rain. And calm, sunny weather at the same time. After so long with nice weather, they chose the rain. Without thunder. The sea stretched endless before them. They saw vibrant and strange fish everywhere. They strolled the Tsunami Flats and got a tour of the Fishspine Reef.

The lightning boomed overhead. The sky flared and blitzed.
