Biography
lore wip
- a gifted clairvoyant and user of scrying magic, Scarlet is adept at manipulating the unstable magic of the Forest to see through time and space. She's no prophet and can't see the future, but she doesn't care much for the future anyway. She uses her scrying abilities to keep tabs on what's going on in the present and look into the past for information if need be. She spends much of her time in the hunters' hideout managing an array of scrying mirrors, keeping tabs on vulnerable locations and letting the hunters know when there's trouble.
- one of the first hatchlings to be born in the Forest, and one of the first to attempt to wield the magic of their dimension instead of simply trying to reconnect with elemental magic. After all, she was born outside of any elemental plane - what magic was there for her to wield?
- very nearly joined the Europa Coven when she was still very young and its members were still mortal. Tutored under Bloodstone and still knows some of the strange blood magic that was the old witch's specialty. She was swayed away from joining that group by the remnants of the Red Mage's Guild, however. Metalmark became an important mentor to her, and while Scarlet is grateful that she prevented her from meeting the same fate as the other members of the Coven, she often resented her mentor's attempts to keep her from using any magic she learned from Bloodstone. It was disagreements over this that lead to her leaving Serpent's Crossing and not joining the Guild. (Though later it would turn out she wouldn't have been a good fit for the Guild anyway as its remaining members turned their focus to dealing with the ghosts of the Forest, and Scarlet's interest had always been in the spirits.)
- Scarlet rarely practices the blood magic she learned so long ago as it's still considered taboo, but she's found she can use it along with her scrying abilities to not only see into a different place within the Forest, but to travel there as well. Using her own blood as fuel to create a sort of "second body", she can astral project across the pocket dimension and still physically affect the world there. Damage done to this projection causes her real body minimal harm, and only magic strong enough to dispel the projection entirely is any real danger to her. She uses this technique sometimes to help the hunters take on especially challenging spirits, and she's even used this against the spirit who taught her it, though at great risk to herself since Bloodstone knows all her tricks.
- as a gifted student of magic, she's fairly certain she knows the exact sort of ritual Bloodstone would have to do in order to dissolve the Forest completely. She thinks she could do it too, if she really wanted to. She has never told anyone this and thinks she never will unless Bloodstone manages to escape again and get far enough to begin the ritual, at which point Scarlet figures she might just know enough in order to reverse it, or at least buy the others time to recapture the spirit.
