Dove
"To err is dragon, to 'arr' is pirate."

Born to the Frigid Floes, Dove spent her childhood in a shack smack-dab in the middle of nowhere. Her family didn't have much except each other, and Dove grew to need little besides companionship. They'd pass the time with jokes, puns, and pranks galore, often getting on each other's nerves but always sorting things out in the end. They only had each other, after all.

One day a prisoner escaped the Fortress of Ends. Whether murderer, thief, or something in between, Dove didn't know. What she did know was when he held a knife to her brother's throat, threatening death if he didn't get everything he wanted, she was powerless to do anything but provide. That day she promised herself she'd be stronger, ready to protect what she loved if something ever threatened them again.

Time passes and things change, like they must. Dove was ready to move out, find her own life. Gliding from one floe to the next, she slowly traversed the treacherous land until she hit the Starfell Isles.

Determined to learn how to fight before settling anywhere, she searched for a teacher. But, with little money, it seemed hopeless until she met Chax. He couldn't teach her, but they could teach themselves together. And so she settled at Starbound—not forever, she’d thought at the time.

There, at the edges of the Crystal Pools, during a practically poor fight they'd thrown themselves into, she met Oliver. He came in, claws flashing, and finished the battle the two weren't sure they could. Grateful and intrigued, Dove offered the skittish wanderer a night's stay at Starbound. He accepted, seeming glad to have a soft bed for a few hours—and stayed longer than he originally planned as well, having decided to stop running when he saw how far out of the way Starbound was.

Oliver joined the two training and, over time, the two Wildclaws grew close and eventually became mates. They've had many children and, despite their poor parenting skills, love them all dearly. Maybe if they'd had more time, they could've shown it better but, as scavengers to the struggling clan, they were duty-bound to go and find whatever they could, fighting off the creatures and Beastclan that protested their presence in their territory.

Dove is a very self-assured individual. She sees things as either right or wrong, with no in-between. Oliver has tried to change her black and white view, but she's always found a way to simplify things and brush off the rest.

Ever optimistic, Dove uses it as her defense. As long as there's a single ember of hope, she can focus on it and ignore the looming darkness, can smile and act as if nothing is wrong. It's effective—until the ember dies and the darkness crashes in.

Expressive and emotional, Dove has a tendency to childishly pout when things are going wrong. But, ever bright and cheery, her bad moods are rare. She's energetic and moves a mile a minute. Oliver finds it hard to keep up with her at times.

Having been isolated her entire childhood, her views are often childlike, simplistic, and naive. Quick and willing to learn, it's rarely a problem, but there's always a few things that she's unwilling to change.

Having grown up with pranks, puns, and jokes solving just as many arguments as they caused, Dove has a tendency to butt into others’ fights with them. Usually, it either confuses to the point they forget why they were arguing, they instead turn on the Wildclaw pair—for one is rarely without the other—or her wide, hopeful eyes are too much for them and they succumb to her wishes. Regardless, it works surprisingly well.

While easy going and quick to forgive, Dove takes anything against Oliver as a personal slight. She's almost lost him so, so many times that her over-protectiveness has grown to the size of an Imperial. She won't let her anxious, shy, sensitive mate be hurt by anyone in any sense—mentally, physically, emotionally, literally, hypothetically, and metaphorically. She might not know the definition of all those words, but if it involves Oliver and pain, you better not even think it.

Had a crush on Chax that slowly died after she met Oliver. Never acted on it because Chax was already dating Cerulean. Was best friends with him before he left.
Drove Cerulean off and, as Chax became her mate, thus him too. Cerulean was the clan healer and broke under the normal stuff plus the giant load of stress of what Dove would do to her if she failed to save Oliver. Her magic-fearing mate. Who Cerulean, a magic-using healer, had to heal.
Would've been into pickup lines too, if she'd encountered them as a child.
Doesn't care about money and isn't materialistic. Didn't need them as a child, why would she now?
Her dove is a dude and is mates with Oliver's. Probably has some pun name. Her kid has her dove's kid. Dove's a bit concerned about her dove, as he's in his twenties and is slowing down.
Is technically a murder. She acted in self-defense—and Oliver-defense—but continued acting when it could've been an easy, non-lethal takedown. It was two level twenty-five against one deranged and malnourished survivor.
Cameo, Eon, Sake, and—until recently—Lucid are still in contact with and have visited their parents. Nyss did once too.

When he knows he can't, What he tries anyway

He scrubbed frantically at her hands with an old, tattered rag.

“It won't come off. Why won't it…? It needs to….” Dove stared sadly at her mate, watching his jerky movements as he cleaned her white hands over and over, rubbing them raw.

“Oliver,” she whispered, voice so gentle it was barely audible, “there's nothing there. My hands are clean now.”

He shook his head sharply. “No...no, can't you see? They’re still pink, still stained.”

She pulled her hands away, hating herself as he whimpered in despair, collapsing in on himself as he finally gave up trying to futility wipe away the stains only he saw.

Dove sighed. Grabbing a couple rags, she tied them around her hands.

“See? It’s fine now,” she murmured, showing him her covered hands. He sniffed, but didn't argue, didn't stand up.

Sighing once more, she laid beside him and cuddled into his side.

It was cruel, that the only way to protect him had hurt him just as much as if she'd done nothing, even if in a different way.
