Bruligis is a doctor, and a good one at that. Her resume was selected among the thousands up for consideration when the colony gears were put into motion. On Tixoi, she was at the tops of her fields - and she was in many. Her work in neurology, pathology, and cardiology saved countless lives, and her surgery work was miraculous. There was much debate among the acceptance team as to whether or not sending her on the colony mission would be a detriment to those on Tixoi, but it was ultimately decided that the knowledge she could gain from an extrasolar colony mission would be worth far more than what she could discover on Tixoi. Despite being such a public figure, little of her past is known. Anyone that attempted to look into her past often hit a wall during her college years. She seems almost to have sprung into existence then, her public records listing no prior schooling, no previous address, no family, nothing. She lived alone on Tixoi, with very few known friends, and no known family. This, actually, contributed to her eligibility for the mission; she wasn't leaving much behind. Bruligis was born somewhere on the Tixoian island of Morik. She doesn't know where, exactly; all she knows is that she was left on the doorstep Mol-Kom Orphanage and raised by the caretakers there. Morik itself was already fairly isolated, being a medium-sized island in the middle of the ocean, and the orphanage was even more so. Much of Morik's population settled near the base of the mountain in the center of the island or along the western shore. Mol-Kom was in the barren northern mountain range, a last-ditch outpost that shouldn't have had anyone living there, let alone children. For all Tixoi's technological advancements, this little spot had fallen beneath the radar. Life was hard there. Food was hard to come by, medicine and medical attention even more so. Bruligis grew up seeing her friends hungry and sick, and when she got out, she vowed to help them and people like them. Following medical school and her rising fame in the medical community, she pushed for better healthcare everywhere, even on isolated islands and settlements like Morik and the orphanage. She created and sponsored several charities for the cause, but never told the press her past, not wanting people to attach good deeds to a requirement of a "tragic" past. When the opportunity came to became lead doctor for first extrasolar colony mission, she jumped on it. This was the kind of work she could do to help people. Her charities were firmly established, helping those in need on Tixoi; maybe there was something more out there for her as well. Then the world ended. Tixoi was destroyed, and this monster, this dark creature, was chasing them down. They jumped from world to world, sometimes staying for hours, sometimes for decades, but the result was always the same. They were forced out, be it by the local inhabitants or the monster, and they had to find a new place. Sornieth is their new home, a blessing. With it comes the native diseases, the strange anatomy of its inhabitants, and the dangers of a new place. But it has also given Bruligis something solid for the first time in centuries, and for all her sorrows, she will survive, and she will heal others. She always has. |
