Warfarin had been denied his chosen destinies because of nearsightedness and unsteady foreclaws. When he failed combat school for his chosen deity, he attempted to follow in his father's footsteps but even that field proved unforgiving to him as well. With his only avenues of choice closed off, Warfarin decided to relocate via ship. More misfortune came his way in the form of pirates that seized the ship. While he wasn't a trained fighter, the time that he had spent training to aid the wounded proved him useful aboard the pirate ship rather than at the bottom of the sea. This worked for some time but eventually the pirates realized that Warfarin only made matters worse for the most part. Eventually he was forced to flee when they turned on him. The dragon flew for some time but eventually exhaustion overcame him and he fell to the sea and suffered terribly as a Lightning dragon for it. Despite the pain and misery though, the dragon made it to land but the damage to his mind and body was not only done but worsened when he realized how terribly alone he was. His silent madness gave him a chance at redemption when a clan allowed him to stay and treat their Shaman's leg. While it wasn't perfect, it was enough to keep the dragon alive and the clan thanked him for it by gifting him a screaming tickbird along with some supplies. Yet, despite having the surgeon's mark on his wing Warfarin became to be known as a bad omen. Only the desperate approached him for aid until eventually he was hired by Captain Jack to work aboard his ship. It brought what was left of the ridgeback back. He sailed for a period of time aboard the ship before he was captured by a clan during one pillage. Rather than put an end to him they kept him there as a prisoner but it was a short term stay. One of the dragons was well associated to a different pirate and secretly sold Warfarin to them. Despite being on a different pirate ship with a different crew the ridgeback survived as did most of the crew he worked on. |Extended History| Relationships

Bound by an oath to the Gods, the ancestors of Surgeon dragons were the first to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of medicine. Along with their oaths, these dragons are granted abilities by the Gods to help them in their detection and treatment of the ill. Enhanced resistance to disease allows them to be in close proximity to diseased dragons without being infected by viral or bacterial pathogens. In addition, specialized scent and taste receptors allow them to pick up the scent of illnesses and analyze the composition of blood. Upon swearing their oaths, these dragons are also stripped of their coloration although many still appear pigmented with various shades of red - the result of blood sampling.
Over the generations, these dragons have passed their knowledge of medicine down to future surgeons and doctors. Some dragons swear their oaths at a young age, while others decide much later in life. Although Surgeons are not restricted to a single flight, they are granted flight-specific abilities dependent on their elemental God. While many remain true to their oaths, their abilities and knowledge also predispose them to corruption and some have been known to fall to insanity or bloodlust.

“I swear by the Stormcatcher and call all the gods and goddesses to witness, that I will observe and keep this oath, to the utmost of my power and judgement. I will teach my art without reward or agreement, and impart my knowledge to all of those who are to follow. I will remember that medicine is both a science, as well as an art and that sympathy and understanding may outweigh procedures and drugs. I will not be ashamed to admit when there is something I do not know or understand, and I shall call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed.
I shall tread with care in the matters of life and death. It may be within my power to save or take a life, but above all, I must not play at God. I will prevent disease wherever I can. And if I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected and remembered hereafter.”
