Biography

Searlus
The Creed's Tinkerer

Levant and Searlus have been mistaken for twins for so long, that it’s no wonder that they call each other brother. They’re an infamous and inseparable duo, and both of them rely so heavily on the other’s existence for survival that even Levant’s jealous nature isn’t enough to drive the two of the apart. Strangely, Levant’s father was something of an inventor in their former clan, but it is Searlus who has become the tinkerer between them, and Levant the thief. Levant’s parents were good dragons with sound morals, but their young, ambitious son swiftly grew tired of the gentle nature of their homeland. He wanted excitement and adventure, and so long before the creation of the clan Mapmakers his father and mother now serve, Levant’s rebellious nature got the better of him and he fled from his home. Surviving was difficult wherever he went, but the day was never dull when there were pockets and carts to preen. Stealing was so much more fun than hunting was, after all, and angry clan members were a good enough reason to keep traveling. When he and Searlus found each other quite by accident in the Tangled Wood, it was a match made in hell.

Levant’s sticky fingers were all fine and well for a dragon simply trying to survive, but Searlus was more ambitious than his spirited friend. Just like Levant, Searlus’s origins had been gentle and sweet, but the smoky spiral did not leave in a rebellious fit, but rather he left in search of grandeur. He had the charm and intellect for manipulation and trickery, but lacked the appropriate skills to fulfill his plans, and so he dedicated many hours and resources to tinkering. He built small toys and trinkets that would perform the tasks instead, but they were no match for a living, breathing partner. Now, Searlus spends his time building tools for Levant’s roguish ways. They masquerade as a duo of traveling performers like jesters and jugglers, all while underhandedly pilfering the pockets, satchels, and lairs of their unsuspecting audience. They are as mischievous duo who feel no shame in their actions, having only ever been caught by a nocturne known as Scintillan. Scintillan, the keeper of secrets, convinced them to join The Creed, a specialized unit of spies, thieves, and assassins that serve the Shadowbinder’s will. He had made them spies in her name, no longer just petty thieves scratching for coin, and both of them are thrilled with the rush this new line of work presents them. They abide by no rules or laws, doing as they please, and it seems only one very special ridgeback has the ability to tame them.
