When Kanaya came of age, she left her nest in the distant Lightning Farm on her Search, wandering the world restlessly in order to find her charge. Further and further she flew, frustration mounting as she searched high and low for the thing she was born to protect. Though she scoured the Shifting Expanse for months, her search proved fruitless, and she knew she would never set eyes on her birth land again.

After several years of Searching, she finally came to rest on the shores on the Starfall Isles, exhausted from having scoured several lands at this point, and wondering if she would be able to tolerate the chill if she were forced to head yet further south to the Southern Icelands. Thankfully, it was not meant to be, for she found her first charge in the small Alternia clan, and has never looked back since.

Some years after, during a festival, she met a young and brilliant Coatl who needed not much persuasion to lure her in his lab. She knew she had found a kindred spirit and a place to further knowledge, to new extensions of magic mixed with technology, and she happily settled there with him.
