Aperta accepts children from all walks of life, and Fabella was no different. As is the way of the clans of Plaguelands, Fabella was abandoned for being a weak hatchling, left to die in the inhospitable wastes, nameless. Instead, she hobbled northwest, to a spire of the Starfall Isles. There, she found shelter with a clan that took in all dragons, weak and strong, Nature and Plague, rich and poor, young or old. The clan had yet to find its feet, its way, but they took her in and fed her, kept her warm and safe. And they gave her a name, after one of the few bones she had not damaged on her journey: Fabella.

As is typical for those of the Plague Flight, Fabella had somewhat...morbid interests. However, hers lay not with the ravages of disease that would stricken a formerly strong dragon, but with the physical injuries that any could be afflicted with. She found herself as many anatomy books as she could in the library, and pestered her clan to allow her access to the tomes of other clans. This request, however, was denied. After all, it was just an interest. Much as the Arcane clan adored research for the sake of research, they just did not have the resources for her to learn, nor the stomach to allow her to research her own anatomical knowledge. For other clans to be amiable to the idea of teaching her, she needed to find a purpose.

And then Fabella remembered the difficulty the clan had in healing her when she first arrived. As if they didn’t know what went on in a Mirror dragon’s body. As if they had little medical knowledge or skill. The same story appeared to be repeated across all the nearby clans. Fabella had an idea. An idea that would let her heal those who were once in the same situation as her, repair the injuries of those who saved her to thus repay them, and spread the same mission of the clan to all those nearby. That everyone, no matter who or what or where, deserves decency.

Fabella’s idea became Aperta Medical, a building that now has five doctors with different specialisations and sees patients from countless nearby clans. Fabella herself, with her now stellar anatomical knowledge and rather abysmal bedside manner, is Aperta Medical’s surgeon, providing physical repairs to the injured. She tries not to cut people open unless absolutely necessary, but still has an operating theater where any invasive procedures can be performed. The biggest benefit of having Fabella as surgeon is her Plague magic; clean wounds will never become infected in Fabella’s hospital as she tells the diseases to stay out, although wounds already infected will be cleaned and repaired by Fabella but the patient will need to see infectious disease specialist Dr. Paget.

The operating theater itself, while permanently disease free, is typically cleaned of any blood and other biological bits between surgeries and remains a spotless white as much as possible. Within, Fabella keeps a collection of finely constructed surgical tools along with a selection of Kamaitachi claws of varying sizes to use a scalpels. Among the most important tools are a pair of chemicals that were the fruit of a necessary foray into alchemy. The spores of the blue entoloma, already in common use as a mild sleep aid, can be concentrated into a powerful anaesthetic, while the secretions of the dreamwaker frog make an excellent antidote so the patient can be brought around after the surgery.

Fabella may seem a little snappy and terse, but she means well. While she is most often seen wrapped in blood-soaked bandages, the blood isn’t hers. It’s that of the patient she just had in surgery. Off the clock, she enjoys sleeping, eating, and helping her beloved mad inventor, Merry, with bandaging his latest electrical burns.
