Seer \See-r\

At first glance, Seer doesn't seem that special, but that's only the surface of this wonderful dragon.

Pearlcatchers aren't regulars to the Labyrinth, as their tendency to think themselves as the best of all dragonkind and above all others tends to put off other clans. Pearlcatchers by no means are humble, and love to gossip. Such was the same for Seer when he was young, living among his large clan of other pearlcatchers, taught to believe he was a breed of chosen, made compact and stable in comparison to the lumbering giants their unstable cousin-breed the Imperials were.

But this high horse belief system was sent crashing down when Seer, who at the time was known as Zyu-Bou, got into a fight with another pearlcatcher. The older pearlcatcher was much more powerful than the young Zyu-Bou, and beat him soundly with magical attacks, leaving massive scars on the poor younger dragon's body. In an attempt to protect himself, Zyu-Bou raised his wing, curling around his pearl, but the attack slashed through and tattered his wing, and struck against his pearl.

The pearl shattered into a million pieces, much to Zyu-Bou's horror.

Suddenly Zyu-Bou was no more, there was only a bloody and beaten Pearl-less in his place.

He was forced out of his lair, his home clan abandoning him, not even his mother or father acknowledging him, only weeping openly about their dead son. He was chased from the Sunbeam Ruins, and he was left weakly taking off over the sea. He was so tired, so worn from the battle that he barely made it to land, a lush expanse of sand and greenery, crashing into the warm sand that buried into his wounds. There, he sobbed and moaned for death until he passed out.

He had thought himself no longer for this world, laying in darkness until his body forced him awake. Barely able to raise his head, he only heard the gentle voice of a female talking to him, telling him to rest and she would care for him.

Many days like this passed, in a dark lair, kept warm by hot coals near his body and his wounds cleaned, even fed when he'd awaken. He could not see his benefactor, only knew she was female and her name was Sparkle, and she was pretty big. He guessed her to be some guardian dragon who took it on herself to 'guard' him, though he was useless now. He bemoaned the fact to her, telling her he was better to die than live as this. Sparkle just would hum a soft sound and tell him 'every life is worth living'.

Slowly his strength grew, and he began to get up and walk around the dark lair, tripping and tumbling at times. Sparkle would ask him to stay near her so he would not hurt himself, but soon he began to long to be outside in the sun. So Sparkle took him to the edge of her lair, where the sunlight streamed out onto the beach along this jungle-like world.

Sparkle however did not come out of the cave. With some shreds of haughtiness still in his heart, the scarred dragon demanded she come out. Sparkle warned him he would not like what he would see.

"Be damned what I see, I have seen enough to know I will not hate you no matter what." He replied.

The next few minutes were cast in silence as Sparkle emerged from the lair, a green giant of glittering, gem-like form. Her skin and wings glittered in the sunlight in various colors, swirls of darker color striated through her body. Long antlers rose back from her head and a cascade of coarse hair fell from her neck and down her back. Long whiskers drooped as she shyly looked away from the smaller male, giving a soft sigh as she closed her large yellow eyes behind a small pair of glasses.

"Well Seer? Do you hate now?" Sparkle asked quietly.

Shocked, that was more of the word for the dumbfounded male as she towered over him. He only came up to her chest, she was definitely a giant, but not lumbering as he had always been told Imperials were. And what's more, despite their kind's hatred for one another, she had saved and cared for him....why?

"....Why?" He asked.

She only looked at him with those soulful eyes and said, "Because every life is worth living."

At first, it was awkward for both of them, the Pearl-less, or Seer, as Sparkle now called him, not sure what to make of the other's thoughts. Still, Sparkle cared for him, and he still questioned her. Slowly they began to learn about one another. They never needed to snuggle for warmth, but by morning, Seer would find himself under her wing and against her side.

Sparkle would often question why Seer would gag at times and then try to swallow it back. Seer finally explained to her that he had lost his pearl, and it would be pointless for him to try to layer a pearl that did not exist anymore, and if he did let go of it, he was afraid he would forget everything he had experienced.

One day Seer awoke to Sparkle gone, the lair empty and the beach just as empty as he looked for her. He still could not fly properly since the crash into the beach had fully ripped his already injured wing, and it was still healing. For two days he waited, wondering if she too had abandoned him because he had no pearl. By the third day, he heard a loud thud from the beach, and went outside to find Sparkle, holding a strange round object.

"I'm sorry it took me so long....it was hard to make it small enough." Sparkle explained.

She gave him a small ball of glowing purple rock, carved smooth and round, with other stones following in it's glowing wake. He held it in his claws and looked at her in amazement.

"It is a comet....Starfall was happening and I thought....maybe one of the falling stars could be your pearl instead....It's not a normal pearl but...you're not a normal Pearlcatcher either..." Sparkle reasoned shyly. "You can store your experiences here...so you won't forget."

From that point on Seer knew he was not the same anymore. He was not a Pearl-less, he had a new identity and a new pearl, and his eyes were opened far more than any other of his kind.

And he also knew he was in love. With an Imperial.

It took a good while before Sparkle agreed to be his mate, the shy Imperial always thinking his advances were only in gratitude, but when he finally convinced her, they probably both were the happiest pair in their clan. Seer was adopted by Sparkle's clan, whom she was the historian for. Seer began to take up the work of going through the clan to hear the latest news and returning to Sparkle to relay it for her to keep transcribed for the clan, as well as letting Seer get some juicy tidbits of gossip.

After all, there are some things you can't take from a pearlcatcher.
