Ikru the Magic Mirror

FAMILIAR'S BACKSTORY

Ikru was created by a rather irate and demanding Nocturne. Ikru, a simple mirror of magic, obeyed and showed his creator whatever land, dragon, lair, or beast he so wished. For what purpose, Ikru didn’t know. He never asked. He was only a mirror, after all. Gradually, his creator grew meaner, snapping at seemingly nothing, and nearly shattering Ikru on a few occasions in a fit of anger.
“What’s for sale at the market? Ikru! I am speaking to you!”
“Makers, Ikru, I told you to pan left, not right!
“What is this? A bird? I did not ask to see this!”
Day in, day out. Year after grating year. It was always the same. Never a “thank you” or a compliment. Not even so much as a second glance.
Now, Ikru May have just been a mirror, but he was a smart mirror. One day, while his creator was out, he found himself asking Why? He was so perplexed that his magic acted up. Soon, Ikru was hovering a good three feet above the ground! The realization that he could move changed everything. Whenever his creator left, Ikru would practice, levitating himself and various other objects. When satisfied, he one day unlatched the window of the hollow tree he’d called home since his creation, and left.
After about a week of aimlessly wandering the forest, he met Mahnori. She was an adolescent at the time. Her brother, he’d find out, was resting at their makeshift den.
For some unknown reason, the way she ignored his magic irked him. She blatantly refused to recognize his power! Glass, she reminded him, was easily breakable—regardless of magical qualities. When she started leaving, he followed, demanding recognition. When they reached the end of the tree line, she stated that his best chance would to stay in the southern ruins. Then she sauntered off. Angrily, Ikru kept trailing her. With a smile on her face, she pointedly denied any further explanation.
What had started as a one-sided argument turned into a familiar bond. Both discovered they have the same dry humor, a fascination with poisonous potions and had an affinity for magic. Today, Ikru and Manhori have become inseparable, ready to try a new idea for a mischievous use of magic.
