Father was the first to press the hammer between his claws while mother looked on with an expectant smile.

It seemed as if they wished him to become a blacksmith. Just like them. But if he'd gotten one trait from his father, it was his independence. He would not lift the hammer to forge metal into swords. No, he used it to break rocks.

The down of his hatchling days had barely fallen off, when the young coatl already climbed the ruins surrounding Haradia Rel. Often did he bring gifts of pretty stones back from his explorations and his parents could not scold him for following his own heart. Had they not done just the same?

Soon those stones turned from simply pretty to precious jewels and his mother placed them within her intricate designs. He had no knack for goldsmithing as his mother did. But he had a nose for finding the most well hidden caches of raw gems and veins of gold and silver.
