Biography

Jarnsaxa (pronounced Yarn-sax-ah)is a Wave Maiden. The Wave Maidens (also known as the Billow Maidens) are the nine daughters of Rán and Ægir, the Norse goddess and god of the sea. The sisters were portrayed as beautiful maidens who helped their father brew the beer for the gods. Combined, they were the mother to Heimdall, keeper of the bridge between worlds. The wave maidens' names are poetic terms for the many different characteristics of the ocean waves. Jarnsaxa means "iron axe" as she represents the strength and power of ocean waves.

As the mistress of Thor, she mothered his sons, Modi and Magni.
