Mwanga is a dragon with a foot in two worlds. Some part of him is constantly exploring the breadth of Sornieth, if only mentally. This has led some dragons to consider him somewhat aloof, even arrogant, but those close to him know him to be an honest, fiercely loyal dragon. Honest, perhaps, even to a fault. He was once mates with Avunaye, but they parted ways. She remains one of his few real friends.

When he was still a young dragon, he trained to be a warrior alongside his "brother" Damu, and clanmate Siri. But where they excelled, he struggled to cope. Kivuli allowed him to train alongside Kucha and Ngombe in Shamanism, but this was little better for him. Eventually, he went to Mosi, and asked permission to leave the Clan, to find a role for himself in the world. With a heavy heart, Mosi agreed, and the Clan gathered together to wish him well. Time passed, as it does, and the Clan grew in numbers and power. Then, one day at the height of the Rockbreaker's Ceremony, Mwanga returned. He told his Clanmates that he had seen Sornieth, in all its beauty and brokenness, and that it had changed him. He asked Mosi and Malkia permission to form a group of Travelling Journeymen from the Clan to join him. They agreed to his request, and determined that all of the founders should have the right to form such a Guild.
