As a Hachling, Blaze was sold to a clan of assasins and witch-hunters in the Scarred Wastelands.
He was supposed to join their ranks and was trained to be a cold blooded killer.
Skillfully he mastered his training, absolving it as the most talented among his peers.
However, when the night of his final challenge came, he refused to say his oath.
His final test involved killing an innocent Hatchling, which was sold to the Clan, just as Blaze has been years before. However this one was deemed unworthy of the assasins training and was thus sentenced to death.
Seening the fear in the young Hatchlings eyes and realizing what injustice he has been involved with for the past years, Blaze finally snapped:
Setting the entire campsite on fire and using the distraction to free all trapped hatchlings and flee into the Tangled woods, hoping the trees and thick undergrowth would provide them with cover and safety.

The hatchling he saved, Marceline, young and imprintable as he was, stuck close to Blaze ever since.
Like a baby ducking imprinting on the first person they see, he imprinted on Blaze as the first person to ever show him kindness.
Of course Blaze tried to brush it off as just a temporary phase. After all he was a highly skilled warrior and cold blooded not-killer, so he had no buissnes dealing with kids.
But he could't help developing a certain sympathy for this small, clumsy kid that followed him everywhere and looked at him like he hung the moon on the sky... Okay, maybe he had a bit of parental feelings now, but those would pass, right? Right??

Not too long after they fleed they stumbled across Blair, who, at this time, was still recovering from her accident.
Blaze, who has frankly never seen a female in his life before, became immediately love-struck with her. Confused with these weird feelings he suddenly developed and not knowing how to deal with them, he showered her in attention and gifts. Mostly prey he would hunt down for her. Anf for whatever reason he really felt the need to gift her cool looking rocks he found during his patrols.
Blair knew exactly what was going on and couldn't help but feel both amused and flattered.
During one of his patrols, Blaze crossed paths with Point. A powerfull warrior that looked just as scary as he was strong. Thinking he was a pursuer send by his former clan to get rid of Marceline and him, he immediately engaged in combat.
The fight didn't last long. Point quickly overpowered him. However, instead of being mad about this unwarranted ambush, he was quite impressed with Blaze's skill. After a clearing talk that resolved this little missunderstanding, Point was even more impressed with Blaze's willingness to engage in Combat to protect his protegee.
So he offered the young Wildclaw to teach him some of his own techniques to further refine his skills.
