Pride
"I take a lot of pride in being myself. I'm comfortable with who I am."
"Anger is the enemy of non-violence and pride is a monster that swallows it up."

She made it half-way into the waste before she could no longer take the heat and collapsed from exhaustion. Her water deprived mind was heavy and her body felt like it was being roasted, and in her delirium she saw her father beckoning to her to follow. But, her body could not move so all she could do was cry out for him. She couldn't tell if it was her father or not but she soon felt herself being lifted and pulled. Before she could make anything out though darkness consumed her. She came to in a cool nest made of soft peat-moss from the Viridian Labyrinth and could hear the sound of dripping water coming from behind her. Her head swiveled toward the dripping noise and she shot to the source letting the water drip down her throat and over her wings in the darkness of the cave gave her a slight chill. After satisfying her thirst she explored the cavern she had awoken in. It was a small room that had two exits or entrances, and the smell of herbs hung in the air. She came to the conclusion that she was in a sort of healing chamber, but it was unfinished and needed a lot of work. Making her way back to the first exit she had come to she felt a gaze settle on her which made her look around nervously. However, she continued out of the healing den deciding to go toward the sound of other dragons. After walking past many passageways that lead to nothing, yet, she came to a brightly lit room with four dragons sitting inside talking happily around food. Her stomach growled at the sight of fresh meat alerting the dragons to her presence. The female of the group rose up and made her way over to Sincerity. It was a plague Wildclaw but her scent was familiar and she guided Sincerity over to the pile of food. She introduced her to a male Bogsneak named Damianus, a male Ridgeback named Drifter, and herself as Bloodmoon. With her mouth full she could only nod in hello to the mismatch group of dragons. From behind her the clicks of nails on the stone of the cave made her turn her head and a mean looking Pearlcatcher walked out of the hallway she had come from. Bloodmoon introduced him as Falconsbane who sat down next to her and sipped at a canteen. Bloodmoon also explained that he had been following her so that she wouldn't wander back out into the waste without eating and drinking first. Sincerity gave her thanks to the group and finished her meal. They were now sitting around a small fire enjoying their fullness. Sincerity decided to stay in the Silentflame Sanctuary. She made a lab in the lower levels where she used Ice magic to make cooler. In her lab she studied ancient fossils she went to collect, and artifacts that the gathering team brought back occasionally. Life was good, but she was missing something. Then one day a handsome Imperial came back with the hunting party. He had no name and no memories. They soon became mates and were inseparable. But, fate had decided against their love and the Imperial became ill and passed on the 20th day of the moon cycle. Sincerity was devastated and focused on her work for the clan with a new found urgency. She was so wrapped up in her work that she would forget to eat and sleep making her clanmates worry about her. Bloodmoon, the leader of the clan, decided one day to put an end to her downward spiral. Together with some of the stronger clan members they managed to put Sincerity to sleep with a strong magic to help her heal. They kept her in the cool lab she had created with her own magic and had a new member of the clan, another Wildclaw named Pride from the water territory, watch over her. He stood watch diligently and never left her side. Sincerity awoke after three days of magic induced sleep. She was starving and looked around her dark lab her eyes focusing on the form sitting by the doorway. She tried to speak but her voice came out as a hoarse croak. This still got Pride's attention. He looked through the window and nodded to her then disappeared. She was about get up when he came in pushing a cart with food, water, and one of the sweet juices she had developed for the clan. She took some of the meat off the cart and ate it with a gusto gulping down the water after. Her throat screamed at her but only for a moment. She continued to eat and when she was full he poured her a glass of the juice as a dessert. The two bonded in the days that followed and soon were closer than she had been with the Imperial. But she did not want to mate. It was a painful memory that took her to a dark place. The time the 20th day of the moon cycle came around again she was slipping into the same depression. She was storming around her lab until she bumped into Pride who had come back in from other parts of the sanctuary. She was about to tell him to leave until he wrapped his tail into hers and led her out of the lab. Their magic intermingled and they had a clutch of eggs laid that day. Her mind was free from the darkness that month. Pride later explained to her what Veasna had told her and even though it wasn't logical she accepted it and rested her head against his neck. ________________________________________ |
