Ever since this dragon was a hatchling, he was careful of his wings. He was always attracted to the shine and glitter from them, and of others with the same gene. As he grew older, others teased him about his obsession with keeping his wings beautiful and off the ground.
When he began molting, he was devastated. The only thing he found beautiful about himself was slowly shedding away from him. He did everything he could to cover the patches of dull skin now apparent on his awkwardly lanky body, deeming himself a "freak" for not being able to look like the other Skydancers with their beautiful wings.
Eventually, he had given up trying to hide, and ran away from home to get away from the teasing of his peers. He made sure to stay in isolation, not wanting to be mocked and harassed by strangers. He stopped peering into the water to see his reflection, he stopped actively cleaning his shedding feathers. All he could bring himself to do was catch food and sleep.
Until one day years later, he slipped into the river. It carried him farther off until a few dragons helped him out of it. He was terrified of their ridicule of his disgusting appearance, but once the sun shone on him he saw the amazed look on the other's faces.
Hesitantly, he looked into the rippling water. His feathers had returned, and they had returned with much greater beauty than they had left him.
