Biography

Glint
The Scryer

When Glint's egg was laid, it is said that its shell was as cold and hard as ice, with a reflective surface that mirrored the world around it. It looked nothing like the other eggs in her clutch, which were instead soft and brittle. They broke apart in the days to come, and her parents, fearing for their last remaining hatchling still clinging to life, brought her tiny form to a mender of the seas. As he gazed upon her, his reflection shone back at him, distorted in the frozen facets. The longer he looked, the more warped it became, until his own gaze was hauntingly unfamiliar and he was forced to turn away. Unable to discern what plagued their egg, the mender sent them away to the Viridian Labyrinth, hoping that the forest's tepid waters and warm sun would chase away the chill that threatened it, and so to the green forests the two dragons went. For days, Glint's little egg showed no signs of life, motionless well beyond the due date of her hatching, and her mother feared the worst for the newborn. In her despair, she abandoned the seemingly stillborn egg and fled, leaving her mate behind. He lingered a while longer, twining his long body about the frigid little orb until finally something within it moved.

The baby that tumbled free from her shell bore a chrome body, with little paws and horns as cold as ice, and when she breathed her first breath, it chilled the warm air around her. Her eyes, though, were was green as her father's skin, as green as the leaves around her, and filled with a tender knowledge not often found in those so new to this world. From the moment her father laid eyes on her, he knew she would be different than other hatchlings, and so he taught her caution, gentleness, and patience the best he could. She matured much faster than other hatchlings, and soon her father realized that it wasn't merely intuition that guided his daughter, but the gift of foresight. Every reflective surface, be it a pool of water or the sheen of her own scales, was a mirror to the future, and as she grew, she learned to hone this ability into a useful tool. She couldn't stay at her father's side forever, though, and soon the call that draws every young guardian to the skies summoned her as well. She thought to use her gift to find her charge, but mirrors are empty for Glint, for she bears no reflection of her own, and so the nature of her charge was a mystery even to her. It took many years for her to find it, but when she did, it took her breath away.

Alongside a few unlikely companions of the Spellwishers, she discovered a crystal cavern where every surface gleamed and shimmered like glass, and dug into the earth were great pools of water so still and perfect they were unlike anything she'd ever seen. She knew immediately that she would call this glimmering wonder her home, and so it was with a sad fondness that she saw her new friends off. They return to her from time to time to seek her guidance, and each time they come back, the crystal caverns bear a little more of Glint than they did before. Those rich arcane magenta crystals are now a frosted blue, glowing faintly in response to Glint's presence, and the air is cool and brisk in spite of the warm oceans that lap at its outer edge. This is the domain of Glint the Scryer, and all dragons, not just Spellwishers, are allowed to seek her counsel. After many years of practice, though, she knows that not all futures can be shared, and that some truths must remain mysteries for others to unfold. She bears a great burden on her shoulders, but she does so with elegance. All those who meet her describe her as cryptic and beautiful, but those who take the time to know her know a different side. The weight of her knowledge is overwhelming at times, yes, but she doesn't let it deter the playfulness of the little dragon that grew up amongst dragonflies and sparrows, and a sense of humor is the easiest way to her frosted heart.
