Biography
Tushar
Performer
|
His pale plumage may sparkle like ice on a sunny day, but it's still pale enough to alarm many Coatls. His gembond doesn't help, either. On some dragons - particularly Coatls and Skydancers, for some reason - it's often more a decoration than an affliction, but it can still cause pain or restrict movement, and any case of gembond can lead to dangerous complications. Coupled with colors as light as Tushar's, it's enough to get him turned away by many of his own kind. It wasn't until he reached a Shadow clan - home of tricksters and illusionists - that he found a home and a mate, his Eden, a Skydancer and a fellow expatriate. Warm and caring, nothing about her fit the Southern Icefields. No wonder she'd come so far from home, just like him. The two of them, and eventually their children, developed an aerial act and found work with one traveling circus after another. Eden was a natural, and their children were trained for it as soon as they could fly, but he was less graceful and less agile. He was happy with his supporting role, as long as he could support his family. Eventually, their children would fly the nest, one after another, but he and Eden were always a team. And they still are, even with everything else that's happened. They'd lived peacefully enough in Shadow for years, but things started going wrong - a forest fire, a clan feud, a conflict in the circus where they worked that split the group into two - and in the superstitious way of the Shadow flight, their neighbors began to look for causes of bad luck, omens and signs as to how to restore equilibrium. Tushar thought he was starting to notice murmurs and pointed glances and conversations falling silent as he approached. And his daughters argued that maybe this was a good time to leave - Maiya said the cards told her so, and Melisande proposed starting over somewhere else, where circus acts weren't quite so thick on the ground. So that's what they're doing. Looking for a new home, new work, a new start. Tushar just hopes he's not bad luck after all. |
