BUT IN MY HEART
When the fresh air hit him, he gasped. It was cold, much unlike the hot and hardly breathable air in the den. He hadn't felt this in a while, considering the only time he was allowed out of the cave was to suffer the abuse of some high-rank idiot who gave no care for his physical or mental health. He had many scars to tell the tales of the experiences he'd been through, and reckoned this escape effort would earn him a few more. He wove his way into the leader's den. Instantly he became revolted. The sheer amount of space this dragon got was amazing compared to that of the den he'd been shoved into with all those other slaves and it was disgusting to see just how much money this dragon actually had. Frowning, Loki crept forth and ducked through the strap of a very large bag of money. It was plenty to bring him into some land, which was definitely what he was looking for. He made sure to keep the bag still as possible as he backed out of the den, heart pounding as he prepared to make his escape. Someone had already noticed that he had left the slave den, and two guards stood before him as he exited the leader's living space. Loki stared at them, terrified for his life all of a sudden, then lunged for one dragon's throat. It was quick, and when he let go he stepped back and watched them fall to the ground, scarlet liquid slowly spreading to the grassy ground. The other dragon hardly allowed him a moment to move, as soon enough pain was burning through his chest and flank and he almost lost his footing. Not going to give in, he forced his legs to push him away and he leaped across a portion of the floor before sprinting as fast as he could across the ground and out of this Godforsaken land. He ran and ran and ran until he heard no more footsteps behind him, and then he ran some more. He was free from them finally, and had a decent chance of a new life it seemed. But his upper body was throbbing with pain, and his scales were slick with blood. |
IT WAS SO REAL
"What happened to you? Dear Plaguemother, hold on a moment." Their voice sounded somewhat feminine, but held a deeper tone than most females he knew so he hesitated to designate them a gender as of yet. Loki breathed deeply, closing his eyes as his chest and limbs were carefully wrapped with white bandages. The blood didn't take long to soak into them, but the bleeding eventually halted thanks to the thickness and dryness of the bandages. He continued to lay there, the pain still not fading. The merchant sat with him for a while, and they shared stories quietly. The dragon - who made no gender claim - was named Rambra (quite appropriately thanks to their rounded horns and striped markings) and came from a large quarry-like area with several caves and tunnels they called 'The Onyx System' thanks to the seemingly painted black floors in the tunnels and pretty much wherever you walked. The Onyx System had been abandoned a while back thanks to rumours that it was cursed by the Plaguebringer, but Loki was skeptical as to why she would do that to her land, especially something as brilliant-sounding. After a quick nap, he deemed himself fit to travel to the system and claim it and so he dipped his head to the merchant. "Hey, Rambra, look out for me in the future. If you need a home... well, come search for us at the system okay?" he offered, for once cracking a friendly smile and allowing his eyes to soften. "Thanks Loki. I'll remember that - keep a den for me alright?" they chuckled, and the two shared a brief and gentle hug. "Keep yourself safe." He pulled away, and they shared a brief goodbye before parting ways. It was difficult, and Loki remembered how much he hated goodbyes. Walking alone was not at all something he was enjoying, but he pushed himself forwards despite the fear he experienced. Loki knew it'd be worth it in the end, and refused to let himself stop for even a moment. Rambra had given him landmarks and directions to follow, and he had come to the final one now. It was a large archway carved into the shape of the Plaguebringer. It was painted black and red and looked as if it were created as a form of warning thanks to its somewhat threatening appearance. The Plaguebringer's jaws were parted in a roar and her claws were sharp and long. A rocky pathway broke out just before the archway, all painted in black - even the unattached blocks leading up to the path itself. He followed it all the way to the slope of the Onyx System, where he stood in awe at the size of the location. For one dragon, it sure seemed a lot. In fact, it seemed enough to serve as the home of an entire army. An army, huh? he smirked, and soared down to stand in the center of the entire system, staring at the area around him. When he stomped, the sound was odd as if it rung through some empty space below. Loki hardly hesitated before taking the first steps into the black-floored system he had decided to call home. |
